It looks like Game Developers Conference (GDC) - which usually takes the form of a live event hosted in San Fransisco annually in March - will now be an all-digital event in Summer 2020, according to a recent blog post by the event’s organizers.
Announcements like these are hardly very surprising at this point, what with other events like Gamescon 2020 and all of Microsoft’s upcoming conferences for the rest of the year also getting digital replacements thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Then you get E3, which won’t be manifesting itself in any form - live or digital - this year.
GDC will at least still be happening - albeit digitally - sometime in August 2020. The conference in its online format will apparently be available to everyone, provided they have an internet connection.
“We believe in the power of gathering our community to share, inspire, and strengthen our industry,” write the GDC organizers. They emphasize that they’re going to do everything they can to deliver the same “high-quality content and networking opportunities GDC attendees have come to expect” whilst adhering to the social distancing norms that have now become established practice all over the world.
