In case you missed it or have pushed aside one of the best games on the Xbox 360 to play any of the new major releases, Epic Studios’ Gears of War 2 is celebrating its one-year anniversary!

In honor of the milestone, Epic Games has declared this week a “multiplayer extravaganza” where players will recieve a triple experience bonus for all game-types. That’s not all though! There’s also a new Tactical Mode which you can read about below.

Here’s the press release:

There’s still a full week left to help rank up your character with the triple experience bonus so take advantage of it!

Gears of War 2 gamers get a nine-day multiplayer extravaganza. In addition to triple experience throughout the event, players will be able to play in an all-new tactical mode across all multiplayer game types (including Horde). Players can expect two big changes in tactical mode, increased weapon damage and reduced ammo counts, along with a few subtle tweaks such as increasing down-but-not-out health so revives are still possible. Also during the event, Public Horde’s difficulty will be bumped to hardcore, and playlists can include individual game types–meaning you can play exactly what you want, when you want. Prepare for the challenge, and more than ever, remember to take cover!

Horde mode is still one of the best experiences on the Xbox 360 so other game companies (I’m looking at your Infinity Ward with Modern Warfare 2) should take note and match that co-operative experience. Yes, and you can actually play local co-op properly splitscreen with system link. Weird right?

Are you currently playing GoW 2 and if not, will this incentive make you throw in the disc for some multiplayer action?
