Today is the day Xbox 360 owners will likely be picking up Gears of War 3, assuming they didn’t line-up at one of the 20,000 midnight openings late last night for it. Epic Games’ trilogy-concluding installment is now out, kicking off the fall blockbuster video game season on the right foot - read our Gears of War 3 review to see why.
While the game’s launch has also suffered from a bit of controversy surrounding its DLC season’s pass and its awful microtransaction pricing for weapon skins, these optional additions should not and do not take away from what makes Gears of War 3 special. If you do find yourself loving the game as much as we do, you’ll be happy to know that more content is coming, content that’s going to be quite different.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Cliff Bleszinski spoke about the evolution of the Gears of War franchise and what changes in specific make Gears of War 3 the standout of the series, from its story to its revamped multiplayer. He also touched on where the series goes from here, reaffirming that while Gears of War 3 is the end of the trilogy, it is not the end of the franchise.
Could the DLC feature different stories of the secondary characters or will it introduce new characters entirely that could spawn a game of their own? Perhaps we’ll get a flashback mission featuring all of the Carmine family together…
“We have some DLC that’s coming up. We’ve confirmed we’ll be doing campaign DLC. One thing I can tell you is that you’re not going to see Marcus or Dom or Cole in it. I believe that DLC should be unique and cool, like Lost and the Damned, Gay Tony, Mad Moxie’s Underdome Riot. All those kind of things. DLC’s the place where you play and have fun. So that’s one thing that’s an indication of where things may be going in the future.”
Gears of War 3 is now available exclusively for the Xbox 360.
