Grammy-nominated composer Ramin Djawadi, who is best known for his work on the TV series Game of Thrones, will be composing the musical score for the upcoming Gears of War 4.
With Gears of War 4 nearing its October release date, finalized details regarding one of 2016’s most-anticipated titles are starting to emerge. Just recently, it was revealed that the PC version of the title will offer up a wide-range of graphics customization options, and those who pre-ordered the game will receive a number of special bonuses. Now, it has been announced that Gears Of War 4 has brought on-board a renowned composer to write the musical score, someone whose work many will undoubtedly recognize.
In a new statement released by The Coalition, Grammy and Emmy-nominated composer Ramin Djawadi - best known for his work on the TV series Game of Thrones - will be composing the score for Gears of War 4. In addition to the the announcement, a new behind the scenes video detailing the recording process for the game was also released, and Djawadi revealed that while Gears of War features some intense action-packed sequences, he was drawn to the game’s “emotional throughline”. The musical approach for the game’s various factions was also discussed, with the COG faction’s theme being more of an electronic-style orchestral sound while the Swarm enemies will have a “darker” theme, both of which Djawadi hopes will create a “nice contrast”.

Gears Of War 4 is far from Djawadi’s first video game project, having worked as a sound technician on System Shock 2, and as a composer for Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Most recently, the composer wrote the title track for the live-action Warcraft adaptation, which has since become the most successful video game movie ever.
Given Djawadi’s well-regarded skill at composing emotional musical pieces across various mediums, and seeing as how Gears of War 4 will likely explore the relationship between Marcus Fenix and his son JD, expect a stirring score that will perfectly complement the game, from intense action sequences to some of its softer moments.
It will be interesting to see how Djawadi’s sensibilities will fit into the Gears of War universe, but based on his impressive body of work and our own positive impressions on Gears of War 4 after our E3 hands-on, don’t be surprised if the game’s music score becomes regarded as one of video gaming’s finest soundtracks.
Gears of War 4 is scheduled for release on October 11th for Xbox One and PC.
