There’s an ongoing trend in Genshin Impact right now where each newly introduced character is being made more powerful than the last (or most of the others). Such was the case with the Xiao, Ganyu, and Hu Tao trifecta; this has effectively introduced some form of power creep to the game or something that made older characters a bit obsolete in terms of damage or usefulness.

The result is that many of the developer’s previous creations have trouble keeping up with the current META dictated by these characters. That’s why some negative community sentiments regarding these overpowered characters are unavoidable. Some players are even going as far as to clamor for a nerf. Just which among Genshin Impact’s characters seem unfair and might need some neutering? Check out these META culprits.

10 Hu Tao

The latest offender seems to be Hu Tao. With how she and her staff was set up to be complementary mechanics of the game, it seems the developers accidentally made her too powerful. At the moment, she’s the one dealing the biggest numbers.

The current record is around 2 million damage for Hu Tao. That might seem fair when you consider the fact that she expends HP to deal that much but players can easily bloat her health to the point where Hu Tao’s million-damage-burst has no consequence.

9 Ganyu

Before Hu Tao started making the game’s challenges trivial, Ganyu players were already turning the game into a carnival shooting gallery. She’s a cryo character with some impressive abilities but she doesn’t even need to use those in order to be the best DPS available right now.

Ganyu only needs to aim and shoot. That’s how brain-dead Ganyu’s gameplay can be. Each charged shot she releases can deal around 30,000 to 50,000 damage without any elemental reactions. Throw in Melt reactions to the mix and that number can go up as high as six digits. That’s five to six digits of damage every 2 seconds with no drawback.

8 Ningguang

Ningguang was mostly ignored before the geo buff back in patch 1.3 but now she easily out-damages 5-star characters such as Keqing. That wouldn’t have been a problem but there’s also the fact that she can be tanky thanks to the shields or her screen.

Sure, it feels good having an overpowered 4-star character that can be more useful than a 5-star one but that somewhat invalidates the advantages and status of the latter. Meanwhile, geo characters like Albedo are left behind in the dust by Ningguang; that’s an odd balancing issue.

7 Mona

Mona isn’t that powerful on her own; it’s just that the Vaporize reaction ensures that she can deal millions of damage effortlessly if paired with the right party members. That’s not exactly hard to do in the game.

Mona has been shown to effortlessly deal more than 1 million damage with a charge attack. Normally, that wouldn’t have been an issue but Mona can easily do this since she’s a catalyst-user and can procure Vaporize reactions even with normal attacks.

6 Tartaglia

Childe Tartaglia is overpowered for the same reason as Mona. He’s also a hydro character and can deal tons of Vaporize damage. Getting artifacts for him is easy enough too and his Elemental Burst can deal millions of damage that’s easy to achieve.

In fact, before Hu Tao started trashing Floor 12 of the Spiral Abyss with single-digit runs, Tartaglia was the record-holder for the shortest Floor 12 clear. The only thing that might spare him from calls for a nerf is his Elemental Skill’s long cooldown.

5 Venti

Venti is by far the most necessary character for the Spiral Abyss from Floor 11 below. Venti is quite unmatched with his crowd control skill and can easily clear a room or a field with nothing but his Elemental Burst and maybe a spark of fire.

That by itself isn’t too broken but Venti can easily jack up his Energy Recharge and have his Elemental Burst black hole ready before its cooldown is over. Slap some Viridescent Venerer on him and he just becomes unfair. At that point, the only threats to him are large enemies which aren’t too common.

4 Xiao

Speaking of overpowered anemo characters, Xiao is the latest one to be released and perhaps one of the fairer overpowered characters in existence. He trades his personal safety to deal damage and has lower HP than Hu Tao, so all’s fair, right?

Well, that’s until you see just how much he deals. Xiao can dish out 30,000 to 50,000 anemo damage at shorter intervals than Ganyu can. Plus, the existence of NREs or even Bennett’s healing field makes Xiao’s health loss inconsequential.

3 Zhongli

The funny thing about Zhongli is that players have always wanted him buffed before update 1.3. The developers caved in but they did it a little too much. After all, Zhongli was supposed to be a support character, at least originally.

Now he’s a support who can spam 100,ooo-damage meteors and has tons of health and tankiness thanks to shields. On top of that, his Jade Shield can also shred enemies’ defenses. Really, he just does so much for a team that not having him might as well be a handicap.

2 Klee

Before Hu Tao came along, Klee was already dethroning Diluc for the pyro crown. Right now, people who have both Klee and Ganyu are using both of them to kill bosses like Stormterror Dvalin in one shot before the poor dragon can even land.

On her own, Klee also deals tons of continuous damage or one huge payload. Klee doesn’t even need her abilities to deal massive damage. She can easily deal six digits with her charged attacks.

1 Bennett

This is a controversial one but Bennett being the best healer right now just doesn’t sound right. Thematically, he’s supposed to be a character who can fill in all party roles but at the cost of being mediocre at all of them. In practice, he excels at every role.

Bennett can be a top DPS, healer, and support. There’s nothing he can’t do and on top of that, his abilities practically have no downtime with how short their cooldowns are. When it comes to healing, all other characters just pale in comparison too. No one’s complaining though, but things might change once developers realize Benny boy’s lack of disadvantages.
