The infamous gachapon or gacha system has brought tons of pleasure and pain for players of Genshin Impact. It’s one of the most popular gambling methods in Japan and is pretty much the equivalent of a gumball machine, except some gumball colors are rare and each gumball costs around $3 on average with no guarantee you obtain your favorite one. Isn’t that lovely? To be fair, the game doesn’t force players to do it.

However, the gambling rush has been proven time and again to be one of the best adrenaline rushes in the world especially if players get that coveted 5-star character they always wanted. Most of the time, they don’t. So this leads to a lot of mixed emotions about the gacha system. It also turns out that mixed emotions are a lovely prime ingredient for some memes because what else is a better coping mechanism for younger generations and their buyer’s remorse?

10 Pretty Please For The 180th Time

The enthusiasm and the innocence of the traveler twins above pretty much sum up what the players feel once they acquire enough primogems to purchase a wish. They come into the wish store with high hopes and dreams of 5-star characters or weapons.

But all that only crumbles in the face of random number generation and the abysmally low chance of getting 5-star characters. It’s that bad whether for free-to-play players or paying players since the chance is all random. There is a pity system every 90 wishes though, that’s one sure good gumball.

9 Zhongli At His Finest

Reach Adventure Rank 30 in Genshin Impact and you’ll be greeted with the poorest rich character ever in the game, the sophisticated yet broke Zhongli. Well, he only gives the appearance of broke-ness since he usually lets the players shoulder all the fees for the mission.

For that matter, Zhongli has become the butt-end of jokes about destitution in Genshin Impact. More than that, he probably has come to represent paid players after they gamble away thousands of dollars just to get Zhongli himself in the latest wish banner for the 1.1 update.

8 Noelle

The most heartbreaking thing about the gacha system in Genshin Impact is not the innumerable number of trash 3-star weapons the game gives out but how it tricks players into getting a purple meteor wish. That sort of wish could be anything only for it to turn out as a duplicate.

Not just any duplicate, but the worst duplicate of them all— a character you neither need nor want. It just goes to show that even just getting a purple wish in Genshin Impact’s lottery system is no grounds for celebrating early. That star might as well be dust.

7 It Just Works!

Then there are those who are not used to how free-to-play online games work and just troop down into MiHoYo’s forums or its respective social media communities to criticize Genshin Impact’s gacha system. Gacha veterans know all too well how to pacify them: with callous indifference.

After all, the game never really demanded anything from the players. Some could even get lucky with their wishes and get good 4-star characters or even 5-star ones.

6 Hear No Evil, See No Evil

Of course, there’s always one good solution for anyone experiencing some stress about not getting what they and everyone else wants in the gacha system: not caring about it. After all, the game gives out free characters that are viable for any content.

It’s age-old wisdom too that ignorance is bliss, so the players can’t be hurt by what they don’t want. In fact, some of them might even be happier with what they have, which is a perfectly usable cast of characters that kills enemies— not wallets.

5 “Probably”

One thing that keeps players going when it comes to gambling with the gacha despite the crushing realization that they might never get Diluc is that they might actually get him. Maybe if they put more restraint into just wishing 10 at a time.

Or maybe if they do the damn wishes on top of the Status of the Seven, they’d get a 5-star thingy. Don’t tell that trick to just about anyone, by the way, there’s no guarantee it will work. Best keep it to yourself or within your circle to minimize disappointment.

4 Wish It. Want It. Don’t Get It.

MiHoYo is on a roll with chibi kid characters in Genshin Impact. First, it released the adorably deadpan Qiqi and then followed it up with a pyromaniac so cute, you just wanna explode. That would be Klee.

So far Klee is probably the cutest out of all the characters in Genshin Impact due to her mannerisms naivete. She likes to make bombs and will give you those sad puppy eyes if you scold her about it. Who could resist that? That’s why everyone wanted her as soon as they saw her.

3 Desperate Times

Speaking of wanting Klee so much, people have already reported sinking in several hundred or even thousands of dollars just to get her. Streamers are some of the most generous whales out there and have no qualms about taking that loss.

Because Klee is just worth it. On top of being an explosive cutie, she also is a top-tier DPS that blows enemies to kingdom come and giggles while doing it. The lengths that players go just to grab a limited-time character that might never come back is bordering on insane.

2 It’s A Hard-Knock Life

Turns out there’s a brand new form of masochists in the gaming community right now and they come in the form of extreme free-to-play Genshin Impact players. These are the unsung heroes of the game since their resistance to the gacha system provides a nice counterbalance and proves sometimes, the developers have to be generous.

Of course, their life is not always easy. Grinding Primogems in Genshin Impact is just about the most boring thing one can do since quests rewarding those are few and far between. With the right amount of discipline, it can be done.

1 Diluc Is Love, Diluc Is Life

One can’t mention the gacha system without giving a spotlight to the most sought after gacha token in the game: Diluc. Some people have literally spent $5,000 on this bad boy.

Once players have him, then any other character doesn’t matter since Diluc gets everything that he might as well be the god of all Teyvat. With the way players are building around him, it also seems he can take on anything. That’s why you want to have him, even if he doesn’t want to have you.
