Now, Genshin Impact is one of those games that gets the player hooked right from the start. Is it the story? Is it the type of gameplay? Is it the game’s brilliant silliness? Is it because it’s filled with adorable anime-style characters? It could be any of these things, but the biggest hook is Paimon, the non-playable character who guides you through the landscape of the game. She’s cute, she’s helpful and she’s also quite the handful. The title may have its issues, but Paimon just makes them all that much easier to bear.
Her personality really shines through. She doesn’t shy away from her opinions and definitely lets the other non-playable characters know if she doesn’t like them too much (that’s an understatement). Paimon is also obsessed with food: types of food, where to acquire it and constantly wondering when the next meal will be. All of these features combine to create one heck of an entertaining character for fans to enjoy playing with… or make comics about.
10 Patience Is A Virtue Paimon Can’t Afford
Paimon has to watch the player fumble and mess up over and over again. Though she may not always show it, internally she’s getting impatient. Here’s a great example of what Paimon is really thinking (whether the game shows it or not).
This Instagram comic by Remdevv shows it all. She’s 100% done. She just wants to get the tough battle over with. It would be really funny if Genshin Impact gave her reactions like this. It would make the game so much more realistic from the point of view of a non-playable character.
9 Curiosity Killed the Demon
Paimon is a curious little creature and she doesn’t shy away from questions. She’s always wondering what’s going on, what the player is doing and where they’re headed next. You’d think, with her obsession with food, that the answer in this comic would have been spelled out for her.
But Paimon has a naive side to her as well. Here, in another Instagram comic by stroberi.rii, it proves to be her downfall as she’s unaware until the last moment that she’s about to become the main course.
8 Funny But Mean
Paimon doesn’t shy away from the truth - she runs at it full force. Any time she has a comment to make, she makes sure everyone can hear it. It doesn’t help that she’s the character that gives the player vital information, so it would only make sense that she knows things others do not.
Still, this secret? This is rough, even for Paimon. She seems pretty happy about knowing it, though. This comic by Instagram user juleeofthewest, though clearly fictional, provides an insight into Paimon that makes fans laugh and agree all at the same time.
7 Suspicious And Hungry All At The Same Time
As players know by now, Paimon only cares about food. Her hands are always eagerly waiting for something delicious to fall into them. Her hesitation in this comic references a recurring joke that Paimon IS food.
Now, every time someone offers her something to ea,t her instinct is to automatically think that it’s made of fellow Paimons (or similar demons). Suddenly her eagerness disappears and is quickly replaced with suspicion. Paimon is a lot of things, but she certainly isn’t a cannibal. This comic was posted to Pixiv by user KuroTofu.
6 Trick Or Treating, Paimon Style
Despite her being a demon, Paimon is not the ghoulish trick-or-treater but rather the candy that is promised. Another comic by Pixiv user KuroTofu, this is another callback to Paimon jokingly becoming food whenever the player or non-playable characters desire it.
She’s always around and she’s always talking about food, so it only makes sense. Who wouldn’t want a bit of Paimon in their Halloween candy bag?
5 Emergency Space Food
Again, Pixiv user KuroTofu has nailed these comics on the head. Always with the food. Always with the recurring joke that Paimon IS food. The two go hand-in-hand with Paimon.
Her bubbly exterior doesn’t even change as she wishes not to be emergency food (probably because she’s seen that joke way too many times). Her cuteness and eagerness to eat are among the traits that define her. But it’s always funny when someone wants to make a meal out of her.
4 Russet Potatoes and Relaxation
Paimon can certainly be called spoiled. Being an omniscient demon will do that to you. While her definition of rest and relaxation would definitely include a bath, it wouldn’t include being the main ingredient in a hot soup.
Her naivety comes into play in this comic by Twitter user @sashacall, relying on her lack of realization that she is, in fact, emergency food once more. Just wait until she opens her eyes and sees that she’s surrounded by potatoes and carrots. Have another serving of Paimon soup.
3 No Filter, No Problem
Paimon is a talkative little thing and she’ll listen to the other characters as much as she’ll listen to herself. When it comes to her reactions, though, she doesn’t filter anything. What you see is exactly what you get.
This comic, posted on the MiHoYo forum by user @daitsukisan23, really sums it up. Imagine being a non-playable character trying to have a conversation with her. Biting your tongue would become a refined skill. Poor Kaeya. He just wanted to confide in Paimon. His mistake.
2 Backup Crackers
Genshin Impact relies on food as the primary health source, as Paimon makes quite clear at the onset of the game. However, she neglects to inform the player that the running in-game joke is that Paimon herself is the dish most sought after.
This comic, by Reddit user Furumiko, makes a great run at the joke, even suggesting that Paimon can feel every bite and crunch of the player eating the cracker. No one feels bad for Paimon though; if anything all these jokes about her being food are really just karmic retribution for all her snide comments throughout the game. Don’t forget, lots of characters in the game are treated rather badly, especially those poor Hilichurls!
1 Paimon’s Truest Love
Posted to DeviantArt by user Batensan, this comic captures Paimon’s true essence in six simple panels. Does she love food? You bet. Does she love the other characters? That’s a hard and fast yes. Does she love the idea of a social revolution? Not so much.
Paimon only has a few things on her mind besides guiding the player through the game, and food tops the list. If she isn’t eating, cooking, or finding food, her interest disappears. Still, she’ll say what she must for the sake of the game while scorning her truest love. Thank goodness for Paimon. It’ll be interesting to see what she gets up to in future Genshin Impact updates!
