When players first start Genshin Impact, they will be instructed to fight strange creatures called Hilichurls. At first, Hilichurls just seem like mindless mobs that are only interested in causing trouble throughout Teyvat. As the player spends time around the region, though, it becomes more and more apparent that these aren’t just monsters but an intelligent civilization that have their own language, poems, and hierarchy.

In the game, events have even proven that if approached properly, Hilichurls are actually non-violent creatures who can be generous. This doesn’t stop gamers from raiding their camps, though, and there are tons of terrible things that are being done to the Hilichurls every second.

10 Steal Their Pot

Hilichurls, interestingly enough, have set up camp around a giant cooking pot that they use to make their meals. In one of the story missions, the Traveler kills the Hilichurls in order to take over their pot instead of looking for another solution to help purify the gems.

As expected, the Hilichurls don’t take to this kindly, especially since they are situated far away from Mondstadt. They also have every right to react in anger to this attack.

9 Take Their Treasure

Not every Hilichurl tribe is trying to invade a town or block the roads; some are just going about their daily lives. The players still can’t ignore them, though, as most all Hilichurl camps will contain treasure that is necessary to level up weapons and accessories.

Because of this, Hilichurl camps are being robbed of their treasure chests around the clock. They live in constant fear that everything they own will be stolen, and those items will then be used to make the Hilichurls’ aggressors even stronger.

8 Interrupt Worship

It’s revealed in the in-game Hilichurl lore that they actually have worship sessions. Instead of worshipping Barbos, though, Hilichurls worship the elements themselves, which most of Teyvat views as being archaic. This view is rather cruel, especially since they aren’t bothering anyone.

Many Hilichurls will be worshipping in their huts when an adventurer breaks in to slay them for treasure.

7 Break Up Dance Sessions

Genshin Impact players were delighted when they first found out the Hilichurls had dance sessions. While tons of players simply recorded these cute sessions and added in music again, many others broke up these happy parties by attacking the poor Hilichurls while they danced.

Hilichurls that are dancing generally do so within their camp and never really come near a town. There is no justification for attacking these dancers, but many do so regardless.

6 Rude Awakenings

One of the fun facts players have learned about reading the lore of the monsters is that they actually have different types of tribes. One of the three types of Hilichurl tribes is the sleeping tribe. As the name implies, these Hilichurls love nothing more than to lounge around napping.

This is why players often find camps full of sleeping Hilichurls sprinkled across the land.

5 Take Their Food

Not only do Hilichurl camps get raided for their treasure chest, but some players will destroy them only to try and get some extra cooking ingredients. Hilichurls are intelligent enough to store food, only for it to be stolen away by adventures who are too lazy to buy their own veggies.

Hilichurls haven’t shown signs of being able to farm, so it’s likely they forged most of their food.

4 Destroy Their Homes

Not only do players run in and kill the Hilichurls, but they make sure to do damage to their camps as well. Many players will even make sure to destroy the pots that the poor Hilichurls use to try and cook their food in or destroy the gates that help guard their homes.

Hilichurls are lucky that the pyro characters can’t set their tents on fire as well.

3 Ruin Communication Efforts

One of the daily quests introduces players to a young girl named Ella Musk. Ella has spent quite some time researching the Hilichurls and realized that they are actually an intelligent species. She asks the player to help escort her into the camp so that she can calmly chat with a Hilichurl.

Many players will just run straight in, causing the camp to attack them even after receiving a gift of friendship from the exchange.

2 Ignore Their Culture

The biggest problem the Hilichurls face is the fact that the people of Teyvat ignore their culture. Hilichurls have leaders and a hierarchy that they view as sacred, yet people still attack their shaman for ascension items. They also ignore the fact that the Hilichurls have sacred dances.

It’s no surprise that the roaming Hilichurls act so aggressively to adventurers when they are passing by.

1 Use Them For Target Practice

Some Genshin Impact gamers might even use far off Hilichurls for bow practice in order to get the long-range achievements. Most of the Hilichurls will be asleep or sitting still, making them an easy target. They are also chosen due to the fact that they are one of the weaker enemies in the game.

This, along with being blown up due to barrels, can’t sit well with the Hilichurl tribes and probably leads them to fear humans even more.
