Water, earth, fire, air, and also ice and electricity because this isn’t Avatar: The Last Airbender but Genshin Impact. In any case, one element alone in Genshin Impact is not enough. The game’s combat system has been set up so that no one element is more useful than the other. Needless to say, a variety of elements is better, especially for anyone tired of their seemingly low DPS output; in that case, elemental combos are bound to happen.
These combos or reactions as the game calls them, happen when two elements combine with each other. Knowing what each element does can be important for anyone looking to defeat the most difficult enemies solo or otherwise. Utilizing elemental combos can also be the difference between speed runs and exhausting endurance fights. Hence, these elemental reactions ought to be prioritized for maximum grinding efficiency.
10 Burning (Dendro + Pyro)
A disclaimer is in order: dendro or the nature element isn’t present in the game yet so Burning isn’t accessible for the players at the moment. However, there are already dendro-wielding enemies in the game, such as those Hilichurl mages.
In fact, Burning acts more like an amplified solo pyro effect and quickly drains HP. It’s quite devastating when those Hilichurl sorcerers use it. This could pave way for a damage-over-time build in the near future.
9 Shatter (Frozen + Claymore/Geo Attack)
Shatter is quite a unique reaction as it’s the only 3-step elemental combo in the game. It requires players to freeze an enemy and then attack them with a claymore or inflict them with geo damage.
The damage resulting in the Shatter reaction is high and physical. It will also remove the Frozen status effect/reaction so players might want to be careful in using it as it can be detrimental to certain setups.
8 Overloaded (Pyro + Electro)
Area attacks are valuable since they minimize the time required for grinding and dealing with multiple enemies. In that regard, electricity and fire are indispensable and are powerful bombs. Combining both can yield some high-powered explosives that deal area damage and knocks back enemies.
Overloaded is pretty much a big pyro attack that also deals a ton of damage. It just so happens that characters utilizing those elements are certified DPS beasts such as Razor, Keqing, Diluc, Klee, and even Xiangling.
7 Crystallize (Geo + Hydro/Pyro/Electro/Cryo)
Crystalize is a different elemental reaction from the rest since it focuses on defense instead of dealing damage. Crystallize happens when geo gets mixed in with hydro/electro/pyro/cryo. The reaction will then drop an elemental shard of the corresponding element.
These shards, when picked up, will create an elemental shield depending on which element got mixed with geo. It will block any damage of the same element. That’s why most geo characters can also double as support.
6 Electro-Charged (Electro + Hydro)
For pure continuous DPS that’s more viable than just fire alone, combining the good old-fashioned electricity with water just like how you learned in elementary, is an interesting reaction. It lets players deal gradual electro damage to any enemy caught in the rain. The status and continuous damage will then spread fast to other enemies and stagger them.
That’s the beauty in this reaction—it’s cheap and readily available just from the weather effects alone. It makes electro-only solo setups viable, especially with common 4-star favorites like Razor or Beidou. It also lets those characters synergize well with cheap healers like Barbara.
5 Superconduct (Electro + Cryo)
The combination of electricity and ice can be too much for the enemies to handle though the electro element needs some love in order to be viable again. Superconduct is one of the best electro reactions due to the wide area of effect.
Superconduct results in an area ice attack that also lowers the enemies’ physical resistance by half. It makes characters like Razor look like he’s worth five stars especially when paired with any character that deals cryo damage like Chongyun or even Kaeya.
4 Frozen (Hydro + Cryo)
Apart from pure physical charged and held attacks, there aren’t many ways to stun enemies in Genshin Impact and take them out of the fight for precious several seconds. As such, the Frozen reaction is invaluable and is likely one of the most utilized. The effect is pretty self-explanatory, enemies stop in their tracks no matter what they’re doing.
Much like Electro-Charged, it’s also common due to how often it rains in Genshin Impact. It makes cryo-only parties viable as well. Frozen functions as both a defensive and offensive combo too since it leaves the enemies open to several seconds of hammering. The best part is that it’s easy to chain and trigger prolongingly.
3 Swirl (Anemo + Cryo/Pyro/Electro/Hydro)
One of the statistical reasons why Venti is such an overpowered character is that he has a huge area anemo attack which, when paired with any element except geo, produces a cavalcade of elemental attacks that also deal area damage.
The main character also does have this but to a lesser extent. In any case, combining wind with ice, fire, electricity, or water results in a rainbow explosion that no enemy can withstand because all of them usually are only resistant to one type of damage.
2 Vaporize (Pyro + Hydro)
For straight-up damage with no fuss or conditions, then something like Melt or Vaporize should do the trick. It’s quite a candid reaction available when players combine fire with ice or water which is easy enough.
What that also means is that players don’t have to worry about canceling out either of the two polar-opposing elements, Genshin Impact’s fire doesn’t work like that and won’t get extinguished by ice or water. One thing to remember is that Vaporize deals higher damage when triggered by hydro but it’s still viable when triggered with pyro.
1 Melt (Pyro + Cryo)
For the most powerful elemental reaction in the game, look no further than Melt. It’s what happens when you combine fire and ice though Melt deals the highest damage when the pyro element triggers it.
That’s because the damage multiplier for a pyro-triggered Melt is 200 percent. Triggering it with cryo is also viable but it would only give a 150 percent multiplier. This elemental reaction is one of the reasons why we see Hu Tao mains dealing more than 2 million damage in a single burst.
