Genshin Impact was filled with content for its Lantern Rite festival in 1.3. In addition to all the events going on in Liyue though, the developers added in a new world quest. This quest is set in Mondstadt, where the Traveler meets the mysterious Dainsleif for the very first time. There are quite a few mysteries surrounding the man, and he seems to know the truth about the Traveler’s lost sibling. The quest sets up Dainsleif to be a recurring character who seems like he will play an important role in the main story as it progresses.

While he’s still a bit of a mystery, there are some things that fans have noted about Dainsleif.

10 He’s The Narrator

Many players have already encountered Dainsleif in the game, even if they didn’t realize it. As it turns out, Dainsleif is the man who narrates the Collected Miscellany videos to give players a bit of history behind each one. This doesn’t seem to be an accident, though, as is proven when meeting him in the game.

It seems that Dainsleif may have a bit of knowledge about every single vision user there is.

9 He Comes From Khaenri’ah

Khaenri’ah is a land that has been referenced several times throughout the lore of the series. It is considered to be a fallen kingdom and also the location that Kaeya was sent to spy from. The nation was heavily focused on alchemy, although players don’t yet know if Dainsleif knows any.

He does mention that he watched the downfall of the nation though when speaking about Diluc.

8 He’s Lost His Memory

Dainsleif seems to allude to the fact that he has lost some of his memory. Although he seems to know a lot of each character, it seems like he may have forgotten some key moments in Teyvat’s history or is at least avoiding admitting he knows about them.

This bit of info is shared when he states that his memories are “all but faded.”

7 He Sees Through Rex Lapis

Despite the fact that Zhongli went to great lengths to make it appear like Rex Lapis had been killed, Dainsleif knows the truth. There doesn’t seem to be any evidence that Dainsleif knew Zhongli or that he was watching the events as they played out while Liyue was in dismay.

He even hints to the player that Zhongli is acting strangely and seems to be frozen in time when speaking about him.

6 He Is Very Old

Dainsleif admittedly looks pretty young, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise after looking at Venti and Ganyu. Dainsleif talks about when Venti left Mondstadt as if he may be older than the current archons and seems to know specific facts about Teyvat’s past that can’t be found in books.

It’s likely that Dainsleif is even older than Venti and may just be the oldest character within the game itself.

5 He Dislikes Adepti

One thing that Dainsleif is sure to make clear to players is his distaste towards the Adepti of Liyue. He looks down on them for the fact that they aligned with Rex Lapis, likely due to the fact that they have been serving the same roles for thousands of years with little change to their ways.

He does seem to respect Ganyu, though, as he states that he sees that she is a hard-working individual.

4 He Knows The Truth About Albedo

Albedo has been a huge part of fan theories for quite some time now due to the fact that he hints at not being human. Dainsleif also alludes to this and to the fact that Albedo talked about possibly destroying Mondstadt if he were to get out of hand one day.

Whatever Albedo’s true form is, it’s more than apparent that this mysterious character knows the truth and is willing to stop him.

3 He Mentored The Traveler’s Sibling

One of the most surprising things that players learned about the character was that he accompanied the Travelers sibling. It seems that the two spent quite some time together, although Dainsleif talks like this might have been an incredibly long time ago.

He even asks the player three questions; depending on how they respond, he will liken them to the missing sibling.

2 He Has No Vision

One of the biggest things players noticed after venturing with Dainsleif for the first time was his lack of a vision. Many thank that this means he will introduce a new element to the game later on. Others believe that he comes from the same species as Paimon and is meant to be a guide.

He is listed as an upcoming playable character, though, so it’s a bit strange he isn’t wearing a vision.

1 He Hates The Abyss Order

One thing that Dainsleif makes very clear when encountering the Traveler is his hate for the Abyss Order. Dainsleif mentions that he will only take a commission if it has to do with the Order. He also seems to know a fair bit about the organization’s hierarchy.

This may be linked to the Travelers sibling being seen with them or linked to how his home was destroyed.
