Though the surprise has long since been spoiled for any Genshin Impact players keeping up with Twitter leaks, the patch 1.5 special program still captivated fans patiently awaiting the official unveiling of the upcoming five-star character Eula.

Maybe you missed out on the live stream or didn’t feel like watching a 45-minute keynote to see if this new hero is worth the hype. Whatever the case may be, read on for a rundown of the info that has been revealed about Eula, so you can decide if it’s time to save up those primogems.

10 Hosting Future Patch Programs?

Although anglophone fans missed out on meeting Eula’s English language voice actor (Lumine and Zhong Li were more than enough of a consolation prize), Chinese viewers were welcomed to version 1.5 by the local VAs for Eula, Yanfei, and Zhong Li.

If you’re disappointed about not getting to meet Suzie Yeung – Eula’s English VA – during this stream, worry not, it’s likely that she’ll make an appearance in the next stream, just as Ganyu’s English VA did at the end of her debut patch.

9 New Equipment

Eula and Yanfei weren’t the only new banner items announced during the 1.5 special program, another claymore will be rounding out the roster of available wish-exclusive weapons next patch. For now, the only things known are that the new broadsword is named Song of Broken Pines, its design motifs are visually similar to Eula’s, and it apparently has a connection to the Elegy For The End bow.

Two new artifact sets are on the way as well – and will be earned in a new domain – one of which is of particular interest to hopeful Eula-mains. The Pale Flame set matches Eula’s color palette, and although the name and appearance would suggest it’s a pyro or cryo set, it is in fact a physical damage set. More on why this is important for Eula below…

8 Freeze Fanatic

You should never leave the house without bringing water, and neither should Eula. Though it’s tough to say which elemental reactions she should prioritize – it’ll probably be melt, but so many things can change before launch day – it is suspected that Eula will make for meaner freeze compositions than any other cryo unit aside from Ganyu, so keep a hydro unit handy.

Freeze is usually only useful for crowd control, but claymore wielders get more mileage out of this reaction since they only need to auto-attack a frozen enemy to deal bonus shatter damage. Chongyun already sports the cryo + claymore combo, and he’ll probably be able to freeze enemies faster than Eula, but he lacks some abilities discussed below that’ll make her hit shatters harder each time.

7 A Dandelion Gourmet

If you’ve been ignoring dandelions in the wild because it’s too annoying to switch to your off-party anemo character, or you never plan to ascend Jean, now is the time to change your ways.

Dandelion seeds must be considered a delicacy within the ancient Mondstadt dynasties because Jean and Eula need tons of them. Eula will also need Shivada jades, hilichurl masks, and a yet-to-be-released boss drop called “crystalline blooms.”

6 The Fourth Hypostasis

On that note, patch 1.5 will introduce a whole new boss to reward you with said drops. The new Cryo Hypostasis is named Daleth, in keeping with the naming convention for Aleph, Beth, and Gimel, who are named after letters – the Hebrew equivalents of alpha, beta, gamma, and delta.

The program hosts were decidedly tight-lipped with information on Daleth, so you’ll just have to learn the fight the old-fashioned way, by jumping into it.

5 Heir To House Lawrence

Without diving too deeply into Mondstadt’s history, you should know that the current Anemo Archon Barbatos (aka Venti) usurped the title from his predecessor Decarabian. Under Barbatos’ rule, the natural prison of glaciers surrounding old Mondstadt thawed, and his followers migrated from their solemn sanctuary in what is now Stormterror’s Lair to the island amidst the Cider Lake.

For a time Barbatos echoed Decarabian’s errors as a ruler, his commitment to non-interventionism ironically created an environment where noble houses rose up and subjugated the meek, eventually forming a slave trade in the “city of freedom.”

House Lawrence is one of the only families that finds its lineage not in Decarabian’s old Mondstadt but in the frozen tundra that enveloped it (hence Eula’s cryo vision). This hardy clan dominated Mondstadt under the seemingly aloof Barbatos. When Vennessa, a renowned gladiator and founder of Order Favonius, overthrew the nobles, House Lawrence was humiliated. Centuries later, Eula stills speaks of exacting revenge, but for what? The Royal Series weapons detail the Lawrence fall from grace and Eula’s ancestors’ realization that they had only gotten what they deserved in the end.

4 The Housing Herald

Although this news isn’t necessarily relevant to Eula, it was first revealed along with the character’s leaks from last month and was a prominent focus of the official program as well. Patch 1.5 will introduce the “Serenitea Pot,” similar to Madame Ping’s extra-dimensional teapot in which she resides.

In generic terms, this is a player housing feature like you’d find in online RPGs such as Final Fantasy 14, World Of Warcraft, or Black Desert Online.

3 Envy Of Every Claymore

Intentionally or not, miHoYo’s ensured that Diluc has remained untouchable in his role as the sole five-star pyro claymore wielder, and he’s yet to fall from the podium for DPS utility, being threatened only by Ganyu and Hu Tao for the most part. Will the beloved vintner ever be supplanted?

Eula isn’t direct competition for Diluc, since she lacks a pyro vision and therefore only accesses the weaker melt reaction, but she might give him a run for his money. Both characters gain crit stats through leveling, 19% more crit rate for Diluc, and 48% more crit damage for Eula. What Eula loses by not using pyro attacks she makes up for with the aforementioned shatter and superconduct, which halves enemies’ physical defenses – a vitally important stat for the character.

While Diluc’s regular attacks are stronger than Eula’s, her combo has more hits (seven vs four) and she’s astoundingly fast by claymore standards. Time will tell which combination yields better results.

2 Skating Rinks R Us

From what has been shown so far, Eula has one of the coolest looking and most useful elemental skills so far, but beware, skills can change drastically between beta builds and the public server.

Icetide Vortex is all of the things you’d expect from a skill with that name. Pressing the skill makes Eula attack in a full circle, freezing any water around her while generating a stack of “grimheart.” Grimheart raises Eula’s defense and makes her stagger-resistant. Holding the skill makes Eula attack and consume the grimheart stacks, dealing extra damage and decreasing physical and cryo resistance for enemies hit. These debuffs coupled with superconduct and Eula’s high crit damage mean that she can set up devastating physical DPS bursts, also keep in mind that shatter damage increases as the enemy’s physical defense decreases.

1 Chongyun 2.0?

It’s hard to resist comparing Chongyun and Eula since they’re the only two cryo claymores available right now and have visually similar elemental bursts. Despite appearances, Eula’s burst does a lot more than simply throw out a wave of cryo damage. After the initial cryo explosion, Eula summons a ghostly sword that follows her and gathers strength as she attacks. After a set duration, the sword explodes and deals physical damage.

It seems strange that part of Eula’s burst doesn’t deal elemental damage, but remember, superconduct and grimheart specifically reduce the physical defense of your enemies. Now recall the new artifacts mentioned above, which drastically increase physical damage through their two and four-part set bonuses. Suddenly it’s apparent why the Pale Flame pieces match Eula’s outfit.
