When players step into the expansive world of Genshin Impact, they’ll be faced with a land full of stories, people from all walks of life, and lots of different organizations with various motives. This is all part of what makes the game so addictive and enticing to millions of players worldwide.

One of the first organizations that players will come into contact with on their adventures are the Knights of Favonius. This order of knights is tasked with protecting the region of Mondstadt, and there’s a lot of familiar faces involved with the knights. It may be intimidating to understand all at once, so here are some things about the Knights of Favonius that might not be apparent, but are instrumental to understanding the bigger picture.

10 Who Founded The Knights?

As with most organizations, there is a founder behind them. In the case of the Knights of Favonius, they were founded by two characters: Barbatos and Vennessa. Barbatos intended for Mondstadt to be “The Land of Freedom” and didn’t want aristocrats to rule the land. That was why the Knights were founded: to protect and guide the region.

Vennessa was, according to legend, a hero of Mondstadt who fought for justice and freedom against cruel conditions, for her people. Barbatos, in the form of Venti, teams up with her to save her clan and the city of Mondstadt, a thousand years before the start of the game. Venti is, of course, the loveable and lively bard of Genshin Impact. The rest is history.

9 Jean’s Role As Acting Grand Master

Jean is one of the most important characters in the hierarchy of the Knights of Favonius. It’s clear right from her introduction in game and her interactions with Lisa, Kaeya, and even the mysterious and closed off Diluc that the people of Mondstadt respect her and her judgement.

Jean’s role in the Knights is that of Acting Grand Master. The Grand Master is the most important role in the hierarchy of the Knights, and in their absence, the Acting Grand Master takes on the duties of Grand Master. Currently in the game, the Knights’ Grand Master is away, and so, Jean is in charge of overseeing the Knights.

8 Diluc Was Once Part Of The Knights

This subject is often alluded to during the Stormterror arc of Genshin Impact, at the start of the game. Not long after Paimon and the Traveler meet Kaeya, players are also introduced to Diluc, who is shown to have some sort of relationship with Kaeya. We later learn that Diluc looks down upon the Knights of Favonius, but that wasn’t always the case.

In the past, Diluc was actually Cavalry Captain of the Knights. After the Knights dealt poorly with Diluc’s father’s death, a death he believed could have been prevented otherwise, he left the knights to work alone. He was, and still is, well liked and admired among the people of Mondstadt, for being respectful, kind, and always willing to help anyone in need.

7 The New Cavalry Captain Is Kaeya

After Diluc left the Knights, Kaeya took his place as the Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius. Charming, quick-witted, and highly intelligent, Kaeya fits right into his role with the Knights.

Kaeya is a formidable fighter and one of the best free characters in the game, more than earning his place among the Knights of Favonius. His confident attitude and secretive behavior draw others to him while also keeping everyone on their toes, making him the perfect candidate for the role of an esteemed captain.

6 Albedo Is Also A Captain

In Genshin Impact’s update version 1.2, the game introduced a new character called Albedo, also known as The Chalk Prince. An insightful genius, Albedo is the captain of the Knights of Favonius’ Investigation Team. He’s a talented artist as well as a renowned alchemist. There’s simply nobody quite like him in Teyvat.

An amusing fact about Albedo is that others in Mondstadt acknowledge him as being rather handsome. There are dialogues for both Kaeya and Lisa where this is said, and judging by his looks, it’s definitely not a misplaced opinion.

5 Captain Hertha Provides Reputation Missions

As of now, Genshin Impact has introduced us to only three of the captains of the Knights of Favonius. Kaeya and Albedo are two of them, and the third is Hertha, a young woman who can be found in the City of Mondstadt. She provides players with missions to improve the Traveler’s reputation in Mondstadt, such as requests for civilians, bounties for taking down powerful enemies, and rewards for completing side quests related to the region.

Though not much is known about Hertha at this point, she seems to keep herself occupied with her duties and is responsible, fitting right in with the Knights. She is courteous and to the point with her words, taking on both the duty of handling missions and administrative work due to how much help is needed around the city these days.

4 Sucrose Is Albedo’s Assistant Alchemist

Sucrose is a playable character in Genshin Impact, and players can get her through the gacha wish system. She’s a bit nervous, but she’s always working in her lab and is brimming with curiosity. So it makes sense that she fits right in as Albedo’s assistant.

Everyone who gets the chance to meet Sucrose notes that she is very skilled and talented, and in her search for answers, she discovers all kinds of new creations. Players who use Sucrose on their team will find that she is an incredibly helpful Anemo user with great elemental skills that help bring the rest of the team together.

3 Klee Was Entrusted To The Knights

Klee is a popular five star character, with her cute destructive attitude and raw power quickly winning over the hearts of many players. Klee’s character story is also playable once players get to Adventure Rank 32, where they will learn more about this energetic and explosive child.

Essentially, Klee was entrusted by her mother to the Knights of Favonius and loves spending time with them and her friends. Klee spends most of her time with Kaeya and Albedo, and has a sibling sort of relationship with Albedo in particular.

2 Amber Is The Last Of The Outriders

Amber is one of the first characters that players will meet, even before they reach the City of Mondstadt. She introduces herself to Paimon and the Traveler as Outrider Amber and seems to take her knightly duties very seriously.

What players might not know is that the Outriders part of Amber’s title comes from a now defunct subdivision of the Knights, the Outriders, who were led by Amber’s grandfather before he disappeared, and were skilled with gliding and archery. Amber is the last remaining member of the group now, which adds a tinge of sadness to her otherwise upbeat character.

1 Noelle Is An Aspiring Knight

While the gacha system of Genshin Impact leaves playable characters up to chance, Noelle is a guaranteed pull for new players, essentially making her a free character. Being a free character doesn’t mean that Noelle is lacking anything, however. In fact, she has a very interesting history relating to the Knights and her aspirations about them.

Noelle isn’t a knight yet, but she wants to be one. She plans on achieving this goal by first being an excellent maid, and she’s known as such throughout the city. She studies knightly customs and is always available to help and serve anyone in need. She’s no weakling either, given that she fights with a massive claymore and is one of the stronger free characters.
