Genshin Impact is packed with a large variety of weapons that players can use for their characters. Weapon choice is hugely important, as the various perks that weapons provide will make or break a character’s build. Pairing up a character with the best possible weapon to compliment the rest of their build is the best way to take them to the next level.

Genshin Impact’s various polearm using characters have many options, but the Deathmatch is something that all players should consider for several reasons. One of the most important things about this weapon is how players can obtain it, which is through the Battle Pass. The Deathmatch is one of five weapons that players can select from when they hit rank 30 on the Gnostic Hymn, Genshin Impact’s premium Battle Pass tier.

As the only polearm that is available from the different Battle Pass weapons, players who purchase the Gnostic Hymn and tend to favor polearm users can do far worse than pick up this 4 Star weapon. The premium tier costs $9.99 for a season, and reaching rank 30 is actually quite easy to do by completing daily commissions, weekly boss fights, and mining challenges. Once they reach rank 30, players can claim the reward from the Battle Pass menu and will need to choose between the five available weapons.

The Deathmatch has a base ATK stat of 41, and the secondary stat is an improved Crit Rate of 8% at level one. The real benefit to the weapon is the Gladiator perk, while gives an increase of 16% to ATK and DEF if two enemies are close, and a 24% increase to ATK is less than two enemies are nearby. This is quite substantial, especially if added to the two-piece bonus from the Gladiator’s Finale set.

While 5 Star weapons will always provide the greatest benefits, the Deathmatch is considered a solid build option for Hu Tao, thanks in part to the improved Crit Rate. The weapon can also be easily refined by players who are willing to invest in further Battle Passes, and at refinement level 5 will give a 32% increase to ATK and DEF with two enemies nearby or a 48% increase to ATK with less than two. After being ascended to level 90, the Crit Rate buff will increase to 36.8%, allowing players to achieve solid Crit Rate builds without the need to get perfect artifacts that provide the relevant stats.

While the best weapon for each character will be impacted by many factors, the Deathmatch is a great option for on-field bruisers who will be using their physical attacks a lot, either to take advantage of their attack stats or to proc on-hit effects.

Genshin Impact is currently available on Mobile, PC, and PS4. PS5 and Switch versions are also in development.
