Zach Aguilar is the voice actor for one of Genshin Impact’s main characters – Aether – although his script is a bit more limited than you’d expect. Beyond a few grunts and the occasional “Windblade!” Aguilar doesn’t get to show off his voice acting chops in Mihoyo’s popular game.

Thankfully, he’s got a pretty good attitude about it. Aguilar recently posted a hilarious “behind-the-scenes” video, giving fans a look at everything that goes into voicing a character for a massive triple-A title. He cracks a quick joke at the start of the clip, claiming he’ll likely need to trim out some of the excess footage – as main characters in video games tend to have lengthy scripts to work with.

That is, unless your game has a silent protagonist.

Aguilar has an impressive portfolio of work beyond Genshin Impact. He’s credited on Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Yakuza: Like A Dragon, and he even voiced Byleth in Fire Emblem: Three Houses after the original actor was removed from the project. That role involved just as much grunting as Genshin Impact – and probably played a part in him landing the Aether gig. If there’s one niche Aguilar has on lock, it’s the grunting and shouting niche.

To be far, there are other lines in the game for Aguilar beyond shouting, but it’s great to see he has a sense of humor about the script. Many fans have chimed in on the video, saying they wish he had a larger role in the story. Others join in on the joke, with one comment reading, “It’s nice to hear Aether’s voice for the first time.”

This isn’t the first voice actor from Genshin Impact to post a behind-the-scenes look at its production. Just last week, the English actor for Albedo discussed some of the issues he stumbled upon while filming the Dragonspine expansion trailer – namely, trying to say, “brush strokes.”

Genshin Impact is available on PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile. It’s Dragonspine update is set to go live soon, adding new characters, regions, and enemies to the popular title.
