The latest free Pokémon episode on YouTube looks at Nessa’s rise to the top.
Twilight Wings is the new Pokémon anime that you can watch on YouTube. They’re short videos that look at the Galar Region’s characters and attempts to flesh them out a bit, story-wise. The fourth episode digs into Water Gym leader Nessa motivations both as Hulbury Gym’s leader and as a model.
After suffering a loss at the hands of Milo, Chairman Rose shows up and throws around some huge #MeToo vibes before it becomes clear that he’s actually suggesting that Nessa give up her modeling career in order to focus her efforts on Pokémon full-time. Nessa still takes the suggestion hard as modeling likely pays better than being a gym leader, and nobody wants to give up their side hustle.
Nessa never shows up with a Milotic in Sword & Shield, instead preferring to take names with her prized Drednaw, but she apparently befriended a Feebas sometime in the past. That Feebas returns as a Milotic to convince Nessa that you can be both strong and beautiful at the same time.
Of course, it’s hard to be a Pokémon champion when you’ve only got Water-types and all it takes is some kid with a Togedemaru to ruin your day. But at least she’s always got modeling to fall back on.
