Nothing compliments the saccharine, warm-and-fuzzy feeling of Animal Crossing better than candy. Well, maybe a fuzzy little toy might do the trick, too. Lucky Animal Crossing fans in Japan will be able to combine the two next year thanks to a collaborative effort between Nintendo and the Bandai Candy company: small blind boxes containing candy and a figurine of one of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers will available to purchase from May.
Although they’ll be coming in blind boxes, gathering up all of the flocked figurines shouldn’t be too much of an issue — there are actually only seven in total. This group of seven includes some fan favorites like Dom, as well as several of the series’ more iconic characters like Isabelle and Tom Nook. Curiously, Raymond is nowhere to be seen — maybe they were afraid of a repeat black market incident? Either way, the small number of figures, combined with their cheap ¥500 price tag (around $5 USD), means you shouldn’t have a hard time collecting them all if you’re willing to spend the cash.
Some might wonder why Flick is fuzzy despite being a reptile, but the fact remains that these keychain-sized critters are a sight for sore eyes. And really, is getting them out of blind boxes any different from spending one Nook Miles Ticket after another in search of the exact inhabitants you’d like to see on your little slice of the Animal Crossing world? Just like candy and Animal Crossing go hand in hand, so too does a bit of gachapon-style risk and reward. Although we’ll admit it’ll be nice to at least get some candy for your efforts if you’re unsuccessfully hunting down a specific villager.
The toys and their accompanying candy will be available at certain department and confectionery store chains in Japan, although shrewd overseas fans will likely find some way to get their hands on a few boxes (or just the figurines, if they don’t care for the ramune-flavored candy itself) for a bit of a price hike.
