In celebration of the Halloween season, Microsoft launches the Shocktober sale on Xbox 360 and Xbox One, offering big discounts for a variety of horror games.
As is typical of the Halloween season, gaming marketplaces are offering heavy discounts for horror games. This week and until October 31st, Microsoft is running its own sale of horror video games across both Xbox 360 and Xbox One, ranging from obscure titles to some rather noteworthy horror game releases that should give fans of the genre plenty to sink their teeth into this Halloween.
On the Xbox One side of things, players can pick up games like 7 Days to Die, an open world survival horror game that was published by Telltale for consoles earlier this summer. 7 Days to Die released to overwhelmingly negative reviews, but it appears as though audience reception has been much more positive, with the game sitting at a 4.4/5 community rating on the Xbox Live Marketplace at the time of this writing.
There are plenty of options available to those that would rather not take the risk on 7 Days to Die, however. Every Resident Evil game on Xbox One is on sale, meaning players can pick up the HD remasters of the Resident Evil remake and 0, as well as 4, 5, and 6. Other well-received horror games enjoying a deep discount on Xbox One this week include the likes of Alien: Isolation, Outlast, and The Evil Within. See below for a complete list of the discounted horror games on Xbox One:
- 7 Days to Die - 40% Alien: Isolation - The Collection - 67% Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition - 67% Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek - 30% Outlast: Bundle of Terror - 75% Resident Evil 0 - 40% Resident Evil 4 – 25% Resident Evil 5 – 30% Resident Evil 6 – 40% Resident Evil: Deluxe Origins Bundle – 50% Slender: The Arrival – 50% State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition – 67% The Bunker – 30% The Evil Within Digital Bundle – 50% The Walking Dead: Michonne – A Telltale Miniseries – 33% The Walking Dead: Michonne – Episode 1: In Too Deep – 50% White Night – 67% Wolfenstein: The Old Blood – 50% Zombi – 60% Zombie Army Trilogy – 67%
Xbox 360 gamers have quite a few horror games they can also buy at a discounted price this week, and some of them are even backward compatible on Xbox One. Fans can purchase the backward compatible Left 4 Dead 2 and Dead Space, along with games like Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare and Murdered: Soul Suspect.
However, those thinking about picking up Murdered: Soul Suspect in this sale should keep in mind that the game will be a part of November’s free Games with Gold games on Xbox One. If someone owns both an Xbox One and Xbox 360, it makes more sense to skip Murdered on 360 and just wait for the game to become free on Xbox One next month.
Here’s the full list of horror games discounted on Xbox 360 this week:
- Alien: Isolation - 75% Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Nuketown Zombies - 50% Dead Space - 67% Goosebumps: The Game - 50% Left 4 Dead 2 - 50% Murdered: Soul Suspect - 75% Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare - 50% Resident Evil – 40% Resident Evil 0 – 50% Resident Evil 5 – 65% Resident Evil 6 – 65% Sanctum 2 – 75% Slender: The Arrival – 50% State of Decay – 67% The Walking Dead: Michonne – Episode 1: In Too Deep – 50%
Besides the pure-horror games available as part of the sale, there are a couple of other titles discounted that are horror-adjacent. For example, Mortal Kombat XL is discounted by 35% on Xbox One this week, and that game includes a number of horror movie icons that players can control, not to mention plenty of gore thanks to its brutal fatalities. Destiny: The Collection is discounted by 17%, and while it is not a horror game by any means, Destiny fans are currently partaking in a Halloween event called Festival of the Lost that keeps with the spirit of the season.
Whatever horror fans decide to play this Halloween, this sale on Xbox 360 and Xbox One gives them plenty of options to choose from. Which horror games are you going to pick up on the cheap? Let us know in the comments below.
