What comes after cowboys? Pirates, of course. Mario Kart Tour is wrapping up its Wild West Tour and gearing up to launch its Pirate Tour, due for an August 11th release at 11 AM PT.
Not only will players have a new tour to download and race through, but the official Mario Kart Tour Twitter also teased a new racer: one wearing a rather dashing pirate hat. It’s great fodder for speculation, and plenty of Mario Kart Tour players are throwing out their best guesses for who will star in the Pirate Tour in the announcement Tweet’s replies.
More than a few Tour fans are hoping Captain Syrup, the main antagonist of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, will be making a significant appearance in this Tour. She’s a pirate captain after all, and given that her last significant appearance was in the 2008 game Wario Land: Shake It!, Captain Syrup is long overdue for her return to a Mario property.
King K. Rool is another name Tour fans have been throwing around. While he may not be an especially effective pirate, he’s still a pirate, and has admittedly made a larger impact on Ninendo fans’ collective consciousness than Captain Syrup. It’s hard to imagine that Nintendo would let a pirate-themed map go without one of its most notable pirate-affiliated characters making an appearance.
Of course, there’s one more character in the running for a grand debut in the Pirate Tour: Mario himself. Nintendo has done the pirate theme quite a few times across its many properties, including Mario Party 2 and Mario Odyssey, so don’t be surprised if the new pirate character teased in the official Mario Kart Tour’s Twitter post turns out to be Mario himself, in a variation of one of his multiple pirate costumes.
Mario Kart Tour has been available on the Apple Store and Google Play since September 2019. If you can’t get your hands on a Switch, don’t have Mario Kart on an older console, or are just looking for a way to play on your phone, Mario Kart Tour is the game for you.
