The Mythic Dungeon International (MDI) is set to begin on July 10 with the best dungeon racing teams from around the world fighting for their share of a massive $300,000 prize pool and to lay claim to title of World Champions in World of Warcraft. The competition has been fierce over the last six weekly of MDI Cup competition, leaving only four top teams from the Americas region and four from Europe and Asia.
As always, the action will consist of teams racing to complete Mythic Dungeons with keystones featuring a range of modifiers. One match could feature a keystone set to +19 and with modifiers like Tyrannical, Teeming, Volcanic, and Awakened, while another could have a completely different set of modifiers, making each match exciting to watch with so many possible variants of play.
Since gear provides such a major advantage in PvE endgame content, all teams have their gear set to a pre-determined power level, often 475, which levels the playing field and rewards teams with the best strategies. Overall, time is the biggest factor in determining the winner of each race, with deaths also taken into account for certain situations.
The teams will face off in a series of best-of-three, double-eliminations matches for two days before the Grand Finals begin on July 12. Each broadcast begins at 10AM PDT, and readers can click here to watch on YouTube.
The teams representing the Americas as:
- GG Ethical Complexity Limit Goosy Bad
The teams representing Europe and Asia are:
- Wunderbar Perplexed Deplete from Beyond The Boys
Casting the event will be industry veterans Automaticjak, Tettles, Xyronic, Naguura, and Dratnos.
We are certainly excited to see the conclusion of the MDI. According to the Developer Update Livestream from today, July 8, the Shadowlands expansion will be launching this fall. This means that the MDI Grand Finals will be the last time we see players competing in content from Battle for Azeroth.
It will be great to see where the series goes from here, not only in terms of new content, but also in terms of competitive direction. While the format and style may remain exactly the same, fans and players alike have mentioned a desire to see something shift the format, because while some fans, this writer included, loves watching the competitive side of dungeon running, the experience can be repetitive and dull after a while for some viewers.
For now, this is pure speculation, so we will end by wishing the teams the best of luck this week in taking home the title of champions!
