Gamers who want to experience the Reaper Game in the lead-up to the release of The World Ends with You: The Animation can now do so on the Switch for cheap, as the game is half price for the next few weeks.
The World Ends with You was originally released for the Nintendo DS in 2007, where it quickly gained a cult-following who adored its characters, story, and dual-screen battles. Square Enix has greenlit an anime series based on the franchise, with The World Ends with You: The Animation announced at Anime Expo Lite, which will be released in 2021.
To celebrate the announcement of The World Ends with You: The Animation, the Switch version of the game is half price until July 20. The World Ends with You: Final Remix is $24.99 on the North American eShop and £19.99 on the European eShop.
The World Ends with You: Final Remix features touchscreen controls while in handheld mode and single Joy-Con pointer controls when played on TV. The game is drastically better in handheld mode, as the Joy-Con pointer has trouble distinguishing between actions. The combat in The World Ends with You: Final Remix involves performing different motions, such as drawing a line to slash with a sword or tapping the screen to attack. These motions are easy to perform when using the touchscreen, but performing them with the Joy-Con is imprecise and can often lead to the game confusing the motions for something else.
Despite the technical issues with the Switch version of the game, The World Ends with You: Final Remix is a port of one of the finest games ever released for a Nintendo system. It’s worth picking up the game at half price, so long as you understand that it’s far better when played in handheld mode, rather than on a TV screen.
The World Ends with You: Final Remix is available now for Android, & iOS devices and Nintendo Switch. The World Ends with You: Final Remix is half price on the Nintendo eShop until July 20.
