Internationally acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii is back on the anime scene with yet another new show. The series is titled VladLove and is a slapstick comedy about a high school girl who happens to cross paths with a vampire. In a recent event at Tokyo’s United Cinema Toyosu theater, Ichigo Animation held a premiere for the first four episodes and announced a release date for the full series.
While Oshii is serving as an executive producer and writer, Junji Nishimura will be directing the series, character designs are by Issei Arakaki, and all three of them were joined during the event by animation producer Toru Miyakoshi. All of them got on stage to discuss the production of the show and give some behind the scenes insight into the project.
It was here that the group discussed the actual release of the project. While the anime was originally set to air earlier this year, the release had to be postponed due to Covid-19. As compensation for the delay, however, the studio did make the first episode of the show available in full on the VladLove Youtube channel, where it can be viewed now with English subtitles.
In the meantime though, anyone on the fence should check out the first episode on Youtube, as it gives a good sense of what the full project will be. If that’s enough to spark interest, then at the very least it will be easier to keep an eye on the news and watch to see if the show ever does make its way out of Japan.
VladLove will start releasing on February 14 in Japan only.
