Ghost of Tsushima’s Mythic Tales are some of the most interesting, and rewarding side quests in the game. They’re each based on legendary tales about the island of Tsushima and will reward players with mythic arts, armors, and weapons.
They’re longer and more substantial than most of the other quests players will encounter in Tsushima, and so all the rewards provided are great. Some are better than others though, so let’s rank all seven mythic rewards.
7 The Way of the Flame
The Mythic Tale required to unlock this firey ability is one of the hardest of the lot, with Jin needing to climb a freezing mountainscape in order to reach the top. It requires incendiary oil to use, which can be quite hard to scavenge meaning it isn’t as powerful as it could be.
It also happens to be the last technique players will unlock, meaning they’re already rocking a strong arsenal. Still, though, it’s a fun technique to flex at the point where Jin is a legendary fighter, and it looks cool.
6 Tadayori’s Armor
The mythic tale “The Legend of Tadayori” rewards Jin with the Tadayori’s Armor, a vital acquisition in his quest to become a master archer. The armor comes with some fantastic benefits, including an upgrade to knocking/reloading speed, longer concentration-time, and the ability to restore some of the concentration meter via headshots.
It’s fairly easy to unlock and is the perfect fit for players who prefer to attack from afar. It also looks good too, with a unique straw hat adorning Jin’s head.
5 Longbow + Explosive Arrows
The longbow can be unlocked fairly early in Ghost of Tsushima and is a deadly weapon in Jin’s hands. It can pierce enemy armor, and also allows players access to explosive arrows, which have the ability to take out multiple enemies at once.
It has a much slower draw which can make it fairly hard to use in close encounters, but the extra punch it delivers means that along as players attack from range, they’re near-unstoppable.
4 Kojiro’s Armor
“The Six Blades of Kojiro” rewards Kojiro’s Armor, which is one of the best offensive armor sets in the game. It also offers the unique perk of restoring Jin’s resolve making it extremely effective in combat.
It’s befitting then that the quest to unlock this armor is the best of all the Mythic Tales, involving Jin facing up against five separate duelists across Tsushima before going up against Kojiro himself, who Jin describes as “a demon in human form’. A worthy opponent indeed.
3 Heavenly Strike
The quest to unlock the Heavenly Strike requires Jin to track a murderous swordsman down, with completion unlocking the technique. It’s a deadly move, instantly killing enemies and costing just one resolve. It can be unlocked in act one, and over the course of the whole game acts as one of Jin’s most powerful tools.
As players build up more resolve later in the game, the Heavenly Strike becomes a go-to move for instantly breaking down any enemy’s defensive guard. There’s a fairly long quest to go through to unlock it, but its usefulness throughout the whole game makes it worthwhile.
2 Gosaku’s Armor
The best armor in Ghost of Tsushima, Gosaku’s Armor is the longest of all the mythic tales, but rewards players with the finest garbs on Tsushima. This armor, which belonged to the warrior known as Gosaku, offers Jin increased stagger damage and awards Jin health for taking out staggered enemies.
It isn’t unlockable until the latter half of the game, but it is such a strong set that it makes sense to make it a little harder to find and use. In fights against crowds, Jin having the ability to regenerate health whilst still attacking is of major benefit, as is the option to stagger those enemies to gain an advantage.
1 Dance of Wrath
The quest required to unlock the Dance of Wrath is rather supernatural in nature, with Jin investigating rumors of a ghost in the area surrounding Yarikawa. After a series of events, followed by a duel against the “Spirit of Yarikawa”, Jin will learn the technique.
It’s really expensive to use, costing three resolve, the most in the game for a technique. It deals a lot of damage though, unleashing three unblockable attacks on nearby enemies, dealing enough damage to kill most. The Dance of Wrath is incredibly effective in boss fights too, and for that reason, it is the best mythic technique in Ghost of Tsushima.
