Ghost of Tsushima has a new box, and while it’s mostly the same as the old box art, there’s one thing missing. As VGC first reported, the “Only on PlayStation” label is gone from the new box, which might mean there’s a PC port on the way.
The same update happened to both Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn in the days leading up to their PC ports, so there’s a chance that this means Ghost of Tsushima will make the journey to Steam, Epic, or other PC platforms.
On the other hand, Sony hasn’t been particularly consistent with its “Only on PlayStation” label. For example, games that straddle the PS4/PS5 divide like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure don’t have the label, and PS5-only games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Demon Souls also don’t have the “Only on PlayStation” label.
Uncharted 4, which is already confirmed to be receiving a PC port, still hasn’t updated its box art to remove the “Only on PlayStation” label at all.
Still, changing the box art at least indicates that Sony has something planned for Ghost of Tsushima, whether that’s a larger PS5 upgrade (beyond the Game Boost upgrade it received earlier this year), a PC port, or both.
When Days Gone was announced for PC back in February, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said that Sony had a “whole slate” of PC ports planned, adding, “It’s a fairly straightforward decision for us to make.”
In an interview just prior to E3, Ryan seemed to temper expectations for his PC port slate, saying that Sony is still in the early planning stages for which games will make the jump to PC. “But I want to emphasize that PlayStation will remain the best place to play our PlayStation Studios titles at launch,” Hulst said.
Sony has also been providing mixed messages when it comes to cross-play, although the most recent interview with Ryan seems to indicate some appetite for additional cross-play compatible titles.
