Anticipation for Ghost of Tsushima is mounting as the release date for the title draws closely. The gameplay demo for Ghost of Tsushima showcased an open world based in Japan during the 13th century and players seemed to be impressed with the content, although it did spark more questions. Fortunately for fans, the creative director at Sucker Punch, who is developing the title, has revealed more about the game, although it is a minor spoiler.
Ghost of Tsushima is set to be the biggest world Sucker Punch has ever developed, and with the track record of the studio this will mean an expansive game for players to explore. Despite Sucker Punch developing well-received games like the Infamous franchise, the next title from the company seems to be a significant departure in terms of size, content, and narrative. With that in mind, many players have wanted to find out more and creative director, Jason Connell has discussed the project to give more insight.
The creative director at Sucker Punch, Jason Connell, has answered queries about how the horse will operate in the game, explaining, “Your horse will get scared and run away. You may not be able to bring them back for a brief, brief moment, but nobody’s gonna in combat, in gameplay, kill your horse.” The director went on to clarify that, “Your horse is not gonna die.” Many fans will have expected the horse to have this kind of endurance as other open-world games have essentially made horses invincible even if they do get scared. With that said, there seems to be an important connection to nature in the Ghost of Tsushima.
It seems that the Ghost of Tsushima will focus on nature and the way the player interacts with nature will help them find secrets. With this in mind, it makes sense that players will have a horse that can continue to help and connect them despite the battles they endure. Connell added “It kind of goes in theme with a lot of the other stuff we’re doing with nature. Our actor has a nice, sweet sensibility to him. He cares about animals and people.” While Ghost of Tsushima is being compared to a lot of games, the way players interact with nature appears to pretty unique.
Despite the mounting information about Ghost of Tsushima, many will be keen to experience the open-world game for themselves. It will be interesting to see if the game can manage to implement all of its themes and ideas into a coherent game. The early gameplay of the game suggests that Sucker Punch has created an impressive title, and players will be keen to see how the game incorporates in all of its ideas.
Ghost of Tsushima is set to release on July 17 for PS4.
