Jin can do a lot of things in Ghost of Tsushima, but he’s definitely not invincible. Sure, he can hold his own in battle and use his Resolve to shrug off a lot of punishment that would mean death for any normal person, but that doesn’t help him much against the dangers of a long fall. In fact, his weakness to gravity may be a way of compensating for his otherwise superhuman ability to survive dozens of sword battles. That doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to get around these annoying deaths, though. Fall damage can be mitigated in two main ways, though only one of which was actually included in the game intentionally. The other may leave you with a bit of a moral conundrum.
Safe Landing To Avoid Fall Damage
The way the game wants you to avoid fall damage, aside from simply not falling in the first place, is through spending your points in the Evolving Tactics skill tree within the Ghost techniques. Once you’ve invested enough points in this tree, you’ll be able to unlock the Safe Landing skill. This allows you to tap the circle button upon landing after a fall to have Jin roll to soften his landing. It should be noted that in the description it specifically states that this will prevent death from “all but the highest of falls.” So, while certainly better than nothing, it won’t save you from jumping off any mountain tops.
Horses To Avoid Fall Damage
This second, not really intentional, way around the fall damage issue may not sit will with everyone. The thing is, Jin’s trusty stead is much more resilient to a long fall than he is. While it can be tricky to manage, but in a lot of cases you can get your horse to actually take a treacherous jump, and the resulting damage upon landing, on your behalf. You may both tumble over, but in the end both Jin and his horse will be no worse for wear. It all just depends on if you can stomach hearing the poor creatures painful cries.
