Ghost of Tsushima is practically right around the corner, with the official release of the PS4 exclusive coming to PlayStation fans on July 17th, but those that have preordered the game can get ahead of the curve a little by pre-loading it onto their systems. This will allow players to jump right in once the game launches.
As the last major PlayStation 4 exclusive game to be released before the introduction of the PS5, Ghost of Tsushima is effectively a swan song for the system. Most diehard PS4 fans aren’t going to want to miss this, and getting it pre-loaded is the best way to to play it as soon as possible.
Anyone that has pre-ordered Ghost of Tsushima will likely have already noticed a download on the PS screen for the game. The data will download now so that the game will be available immediately on July 17th at midnight.
The Ghost of Tsushima file size is showing 35.37 gigabytes, a remarkably small number given the outrageous size of most other PS4 games. There are a couple possible explanations for this, however. The first and most likely answer is that this isn’t the full download. Once the game actually releases, players may be prompted to download the rest of it, and pre-loading may simply be a way to get these first 35.37 GB out of the way ahead of time. Another potential reason is that Sucker Punch Productions, the developer, spent a good amount of time combing through the code to ensure that there are as few duplicate assets as possible and optimize the file size.
It is probably a combination of these two things. There will almost certainly be a day one patch for fans to download on the 17th at the very least, but either way the file size is impressive, especially when compared to things like the massive Call of Duty file sizes fans have experienced. It’s worth noting that there have also been some claims of a second download file called bonus content which amounts to 22.085 GB, which would put the total size more in line with expectations. Fans are understandably excited about this development, as it feels like they’ve been waiting forever for the game to actually release.
Ghost of Tsushima was delayed quite heavily, and for many it seemed that the highly anticipated game would never come. Though a small step, the ability to pre-load the game’s data makes it feel all the more real, and now fans have just one week to wait before getting their hands on the full experience.
