Ghost of Tsushima is a title that many in the gaming community have had their eye on for quite some time now. Ever since the reveal trailer was first released back in E3 2018, Ghost of Tsushima has left an incredibly strong impact on gaming enthusiasts. While key features of the game have been revealed, a lot of details have been kept in the dark. However, a few weeks away from its release, the official ESRB rating for Ghost of Tsushima has been released, which paints quite a bloody picture.

Surprising nobody, the game is rated M for Mature. The initial gameplay trailer shown at E3 2018 featured a lot of prominent violence and gore, thus it makes sense for the game to be rated as such. However, the ESRB rating summary for the game goes into a lot more visceral detail regarding the game and what happens within it.

Currently, the game is rated M for blood and gore, intense violence, and partial nudity — all common symptoms of a typical M rated game, such as Assassin’s Creed. The ESRB also included a summary as to why the game is rated as such, and the description of some of the events that occur in-game is brutal.

The summary describes how some attacks can lead to dismemberment and decapitation of enemies, followed by intense blood-spatter effects. Decapitation was brought up quite a lot in the rating summary as well as burning people to death. It was no secret that this game was going to be violent, but this is still rather intense.

Obviously, some people will be put off by the extreme level of violence and gore featured throughout the game. Then again, that’s the reason why games have ratings in the first place. It’s to inform players as to what they are getting themselves into when purchasing this game. With how much content is featured in the game, it’s important for all players to know what to expect from certain games, especially hyper-violent ones like Ghost of Tsushima.

Ghost of Tsushima has proven to have quite a lot of meat on its bones when it comes to story, gameplay mechanics, and in-game features. As more and more details surface regarding this game, it’s starting to look extremely impressive. With the game only a few short weeks away from release, fans are surely excited for what’s to come in terms of the main game.

Ghost of Tsushima is set to release on July 17th, 2020.
