The world of Ghost of Tsushima is brimming with details and care that prove how much work Sucker Punch put into making this game. Beyond making the world feel real and immersive to players, they also took the time to give some respect to their fellow Sony first party studios in the form of some nice little Easter Eggs. But, unlike some other games which stick in a reference no matter how much it clashes with the world of the game, the team was able to celebrate games as different as Gran Turismo and Horizon Zero Dawn without completely breaking the world’s immersion.
This discovery came from a player who shared their discovery on their Twitter, and since posted a video examining the Easter Eggs online. While the location where you can find these little references is only unlocked in the late game of Ghost of Tsushima, there won’t be any story related spoilers. After beating the game you will unlock a new home you can explore and find these origami figures on a candle-lit table inside.
All Sony Exclusive Origami Easter Eggs
The table inside is adorned with an assortment of little origami pieces that are easily overlooked, but are clear references to specific titles from other Sony first party studios. Right in the middle is a Colossus from Shadow of the Colossus developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan and Team Ico, which just got a remake on PS4 made by BluePoint. To the right of that is the Leviathan Axe, Kratos’ new primary weapon in Sony Santa Monica’s reboot of God of War. Below that is Ellie’s guitar from the very recently released The Last of Us Part II by Naughty Dog. Directly to the right of that is the logo for Sony London Studio.
The bottom right has a simple bat and ball for Sony San Diego’s MLB The Show series. Near the top is a paintbrush as a reference to Concrete Genie, also released this year, by PixelOpus. In the far corner is a little tough to identify, but what must be the imp from Media Molecule’s Dreams. A crude motorcycle beside the colossus looks to be a nod to Sony Bend’s Days Gone, and the face below is unmistakably Ratchet from Insomniac Games’ Ratchet and Clank series. Above Ratchet is a Tallneck from Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn. Finally, sticking out a bit more than the rest, is the car referencing Polypony Digital and the Gran Turismo series.
While references and Easter Eggs are always good fun, it’s great to see when a developer takes the time to make them fit in with the world as seamlessly as possible. Since it would probably be impossible to incorporate references to things like street racing, giant robot dinosaurs, and cute floating creatures naturally in any game, representing them as origami figures was the perfect solution for Ghost of Tsushima. Plus, since these little figures can only be found after the main story has been completed, they’re a nice bonus for the player to discover after seeing Jin’s story through.
