Ghost of Tsushima looks set to be another interesting PlayStation 4 exclusive and the anticipation for the release of the game is building. The samurai based Ghost of Tsushima looks to be one of the biggest releases of July and many players are wondering about how its huge open world, stealth, and fighting mechanics will come together. At the moment, one of the most notable aspects is its cinematic inspiration and it seems this extends to the music of Ghost of Tsushima.

The developer behind the game, Sucker Punch Productions, has noted that while creating a vast open-world Ghost of Tsushima was influenced by samurai films and the title is also showcasing the skills of film composers. True to the eastern inspiration of the game, Sucker Punch hired two composers who have worked on samurai films and they have now released teasers of the tracks alongside a pre-order listing for the soundtrack of the game.

Composers Ilan Eshkeri and Shigeru “Ume” Umebayashi were both enlisted to provide a soundtrack for the game. The primary reason for selecting two composers appears to be because of the size of Ghost of Tsushima as well as the ability to exchange ideas. For those who are unaware of the work of Eshkeri and Umebayashi, Esheki has worked on cinematic titles such as Ninja Assassin, 47 Ronin as well as video games like Sims 4. Umebayashi has a deep history of working with film and has been responsible for the soundtracks to films such as The Real Shaolin, True Legend, and House of Flying Daggers. The composers discussed the writing process behind the music and Umebayashi explained: “When listeners hear the music for the game, I hope that they feel the hearts of the people of Tsushima – those who love the land, living and plowing with the natural bounties it offers, and those of the warriors who take their katanas and follow the way of the samurai.” This sounds like an incredibly immersive experience and combined with a duality of the protagonist in Ghost of Tsushima that Eshkeri has described it will be interesting to hear the dynamics of the soundtrack.

There is no doubt that Ghost of Tsushima is an ambitious project and with mounting anticipation, it may be a resounding success commercially. With acclaimed composers, many will be intrigued by the soundtrack which appears to be expansive and filled with its own musical story.

Ghost of Tsushima will be available on July 17, exclusively for the PlayStation 4. The Ghost of Tsushima Soundtrack will be released on the same day.
