Fans of Ghost of Tsushima have jumped at every chance to share their appreciation and support for the game, and Sucker Punch seems to be returning the favor. Since launch, there have been two patches that address issues within the game or add new features. The first patch added the new Lethal mode in an effort to provide a more challenging experience for fans, and this newest update makes some changes to the Traveler’s Attire’s artifact tracking ability.

The patch notes of Ghost of Tsushima’s most recent update were vague for the most part when referring to this change, stating only that it added new visual cues to help make finding artifacts with this armor a bit easier and more accessible, but equipping it will make the change very clear. Though it is easy to see what’s change, understanding the best way to use the Traveler’s Attire now takes a bit of extra work.

Most notably, players will now notice the appearance of a firefly or lightning bug when they are near an artifact. This firefly will pulse with light, with the speed at which it pulses indicating how near or far the artifact is. The controller will still vibrate in a similar way as it used to, but now the vibrations are farther apart and easier to comprehend. This firefly is the visual cue that the patch notes mentioned, and it is helpful in more ways than one.

Astute players may notice that, although the firefly always stays close to Jin, it tends to point towards the artifact. This means that players not only know how close they are to an artifact, but the general direction they need to head to find it. All players need to do is follow the firefly and pay attention to how fast it glows and the controller vibrates in order to pinpoint the artifact, record, or banner. This especially useful after clearing a Mongol camp, as there are often many records and Mongol artifacts found within these.

There are a few tips that can help make this process even easier, as it is a little different from following Ghost of Tsushima’s golden birds or foxes. Unlike those two creatures, the firefly is tethered to Jin, remaining within a certain distance of him and simply pointing in the direction of the record, so players will need to slow down. It also can’t move quite as fast as Jin, so for the best results, it is important to walk when following. Another option if tilting the joystick to walk proves to be too troublesome is to crouch. This will automatically set Jin’s speed to a level that the firefly can keep up with, making it easier to track down the artifacts.

It should be said that the firefly does not seem to be able to point in vertical directions, so some artifacts may still be difficult to find if they are above or below the player. It also helps to stand near an artifact for a while after finding it to see how fast the firefly glows when standing right next to the target. This way, if the player is in a building with the artifact above them, they will know that they are close. Finally, this change makes the final upgrade to the Traveler’s Attire much more useful. Previously, doubling the range at which the set could detect artifacts from 30 to 60 meters was somewhat pointless, as players would have a very hard time finding an artifact 60 meters away with nothing to go off of aside from the vibrations, but the firefly will help with that now.

Ghost of Tsushima is available now exclusively for PS4.
