Animals are incredibly important in Ghosts of Tsushima. Since there are no map markers or HUD displays, players have to follow animals like foxes and golden birds in the area to lead them to points of interest. Getting close to foxes will bring players to Inari Shrines all over the game, and these shrines are incredibly important.
About Inari Shrines
There are a grand total of 49 Inari Shrines in Ghost of Tsushima. These shrines are scattered all over the game, hiding behind trees, inside of caves, and in other little out-of-the-way corners. They look like tiny huts, usually accompanied by a statue of a fox. At these locations, players can pray to earn additional slots for charms and some Minor Charms, which give players passive skills and perks to help with battles.
How to Find the Inari Shrines
To get to the shrine, players will have to first find themselves a fox den. Once a fox is located, it will jog off into the forest, expecting the player to follow closely. Each of the 49 foxes at the fox dens will lead a player to a different Inari Shrine location. Once players have found all 49 locations, they will earn a trophy and a special in-game mask called the Wolf of Tsushima Mask.
Once Jin is at a shrine, make sure he awards his fox friend with plenty of pets before praying and taking away his loot.
Inari Shrine Locations
In Ghost of Tsushima, there are 22 shrines in Izuhara, 17 in Toyotama, and 10 in Kamiagata.
In order to find the fox dens easily in Izuhara, players can look for fireflies in fields at night, golden trees, or distinctly differently colored foliage that are hiding the fox den locations. These natural hints that lead players to in-game experiences is part of what makes Ghosts of Tsushima distinct, and one of the ways Sucker Punch was able to avoid supernatural elements in the game.
Once players visit each shrine and honor them, they will earn their Mask, some sweet charms, and of course those extra charm slots. These will surely help Jin in his quest for vengeance.
Ghost of Tsushima is available now for PlayStation 4.
