Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima has been revealing a lot of interesting news lately. From the stance mechanic to the chiburi feature, the development studio has been giving interviews about their game and offering insight on what players can expect after the game is released. The most recent batch of news touches upon Ghost of Tsushima’s difficulty options.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Ghost of Tsushima’s creative director Jason Connell reconfirmed that the game will have difficulty options, and how players will be able to select the appropriate difficulty based on their skill level and how tough they want the game to be. “If the game is too easy and you want it to be a much more challenging experience, you can take it up a notch,” Connell explained in the interview. “If you find the game is a little too hard, you can take it down. Again, this is an effort to try to get as many players as possible.”
Based on what the creative director said, it sounds like players will be able to choose from a list of typical difficulty settings. A lot of games have the classic easy, medium, and hard difficulty settings, meaning that Ghost of Tsushima will follow in their footsteps and have something similar as well. This is very good for players who are looking for a casual experience and want to have a good time without worrying too much about dying like in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for example (many have found the game to be notorious for its difficulty and how players must adept to it). As Connell stated, this was done in an effort to get as many players as possible and not make the experience frustrating for them.
Earlier in the week, Ghost of Tsushima’s game director Nate Fox revealed that the game’s combat will be challenging, so much so that a few hits will kill the player if they are not careful or don’t use correct stances. Combined with the news that there will be a variety of difficulty settings, it seems that the combat will be a bit more forgiving on the easier settings as opposed to more difficult ones. Nonetheless, Sucker Punch is aiming to make a game that isn’t too easy, but isn’t too difficult as well.
Ghost of Tsushima will release exclusively for PS4 on July 17.
