Santa Monica Studios’ latest God of War game was positively received by most fans and critics from all over the world. Many have cited the game’s step towards a new direction, its narrative, its combat flow, and overall lore to be the arguments as to why the game was so positively received.
Aside from those, there is also an air of mystery surrounding the game’s story. At various points in the game, the players are presented with a scenario that will give them more questions than answers, questions that are yet to be fully satisfied. These are questions fans hope the next game will address and answer.
10 What Are Brok And Sindri’s Plan For Mimir
During the game’s climax, Kratos and Atreus leave Mimir behind upon Mimir’s advice, believing the moment to be personal. With no one else around, the pair leave Mimir’s head with Brok and Sindri, much to the trio’s disdain.
After their return, Kratos and Atreus find Mimir alone on the ground. When asked where the Huldra brothers have gone, Mimir says they just started making measurements, started talking about the weather, and dashed away. It is unclear as to why exactly Brok and Sindri took measurements of Mimir’s head, but a few fans believe this is so they can craft a body for Mimir, which will appear on the next game.
9 Will The Dream Come True?
There is a secret ending in God of War that will trigger if Kratos and Atreus go back to their cabin after completing the main campaign. Once they arrive home, they will then take their well-deserved rest, which then leads to Atreus’ vision of the future.
This vision foresees Thor, the god of thunder himself, visiting Kratos and Atreus in their home, seemingly battle-ready. Whether this vision will come true or not, or even if it will play out in exactly the same way, is something to look forward to in the next game.
8 What Svartaljofurr Meant
At one point, Kratos and Atreus’ journey leads them to a war-torn Alfheim between the light elves and the dark elves. The end boss of this level is Svartaljofurr, the king of the dark elves. After defeating the dark elf, he’ll remark that Kratos and Atreus have made a mistake, which confuses Atreus.
Considering this, it is implied that there is more to the war between the light elves and the dark elves than portrayed in the game. It also hints that Kratos and Atreus’ actions are going to have implications in the next game. What that implication exactly is is yet still yet to be witnessed.
7 What Does Kratos’ Mural Mean?
At the end of the game, Kratos and Atreus find a mural on the peak of Jotunheim which details everything they’ve done throughout the entire game. This cements the fact that the giants, including Faye, knew everything that was going to happen to the pair before it even happened to them. One part of the mural also shows a vision of the future, including a very grim one regarding Kratos.
One part of the mural shows Kratos lying on the ground, with Atreus seemingly cradling him. Whether this means Kratos is meant to die, or otherwise, is one of the most baffling things to the fans of the game.
6 Why Did Faye Die?
Kratos and Atreus’ journey began with Faye’s death. Their main goal, after all, is to take Faye’s ashes to the highest peak in all the realms. While this fact is constantly reiterated throughout the game, it is never mentioned why Faye died in the first place.
Judging by the mural in the final level of the game, it seems Faye too was aware that she was going to die eventually, which would then kickstart the father and son’s journey.
5 Was Athena Just A Figment Of Kratos’ Imagination?
While going back home to retrieve a piece of his past, the Blades of Chaos, Kratos is haunted by a vision of Athena, another piece of his past that he left behind. It is unknown, however, whether or not this was just a figment of Kratos’ imagination or Athena’s spirit actually did present itself to Kratos.
While it’s easy to pass this off as Kratos’ imagination, it should be implied that even though Athena is dead, she has made an appearance as an astral being to Kratos in the previous God of War game.
4 The True Nature Of The World Serpent
The World Serpent is one of the most mysterious characters in the game. According to Mimir, the World Serpent was sent back in time after an intense battle with Thor, a statement Kratos finds ludicrous. Although, something like this is not unheard of in the God of War universe.
Those who have read Norse mythology also know that the World Serpent is the offspring of Loki, which turns out to also be Atreus in this universe. How that story is exactly going to play out in the future game is full of possibilities, but still mysterious as of this moment.
3 Is Tyr Dead?
Tyr is the Norse god of war. He is also the god of justice. Instead of seeking war and being bloodthirsty, like most of the other Norse gods, Tyr is very peace-seeking and kind. He sought to bring everyone from all the realms to come together as one, which was made unfruitful due to Odin’s intervention. Believing Tyr to be allied to the giants, it is said that Odin has either imprison him or just had him killed.
There’s no way to know the true answer to this question just yet. We’ll just have to find out whether this is going to be revealed in the upcoming sequel or not.
2 Why The Dwarves Disappear When Freya Is Around
Brok and Sindri can be visited at various points in the game’s map, providing much-needed supplies for the right amount. Oddly enough, whenever Freya is around, passing by the exact same locations the dwarves normally stay at can be seen left abandoned. The dwarves are nowhere to be seen.
The reason for this is unknown. It’s not like the dwarves are afraid of Freya considering they’ve mentioned their adorations for the goddess.
1 Who Blew The Horn?
One of the most baffling things about the story of God of War happened about halfway through the game. When returning to Freya’s cabin after Atreus had fallen ill, the horn to call forth the World Serpent is blown, but it is unknown exactly who did it.
Fan theories regarding this range from Baldur, Modi, or even Kratos and Atreus from the future. It is all speculation at this point, though, one many hope the future game will eventually finalize.
