The newest God of War is out and has been very well received by both fans and critics alike, even setting a sales record over in the UK within its first week of sales. So far, it seems like players have only had minor issues with the title and a recently released patch looks to resolve one of those issues.
A fan on Twitter requested that text be enlarged for those sitting farther from the screen. Santa Monica Studios, the developer behind God of War responded by saying a patch had just been released to address that issue. The patch increases text size in multiple areas, including the map and codex. There is a new option in the “Accessibility” menu that will allow players to move a slider, which will in turn adjust the text size.
This is good news, especially for fans who have to sit farther away from their screen. The small text could especially be taxing for those individuals when you consider the amount of time it could take to beat the game. The main story could take around 25 hours to beat, without doing any sidequests. That could put a lot of strain on a person’s eyes having to stare at small text for that long, more so for those who have long gaming sessions with minimal breaks.
On top of the sales records the title has set, it has been just as successful from a critical standpoint as well, receiving such acclaim that is the best reviewed PS4 game to date. That is an accomplishment to be proud of, especially considering the other great exclusives that have came out for the console in the last few years, including Guerilla Games’ Horizon: Zero Dawn and Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4.
Santa Monica Studios took a bit of a risk with the newest entry by making changes to the existing God of War formula. The camera was pulled in closer, for a more over the shoulder point of view, like in The Last of Us. Combat, while still brutal, saw some changes as well with the most notable seeing Kratos lose his iconic chain blades in favor of the Leviathan axe. These changes, however, did not hold the game back and helped it receive all the praise it has been getting. You can even check out what we thought of it by reading our God of War review.
