The Coronavirus has become a global pandemic, with the video game industry hit especially hard. Massive events like TwitchCon have been canceled, and many games have been delayed. The Center for Disease Control has recommended that whenever possible, people should self-isolate by minimizing contact with others. As a result of this, many gamers have a lot of free time on their hands. To help these gamers, online video game retailer GOG has released 27 free games online called the “Stay at home and play some games” collection.
With many gamers self-isolating because of the Coronavirus, it’s a great time to try out new video games. There are a wide variety of games in the collection, spanning from RPGs to shooters to card games. One notable game is GWENT: The Witcher Card Game. It’s an expanded version of the mini-game playable in The Witcher, and includes some characters from The Witcher that fans will be familiar with.
There are also a number of old school games available for download, including Postal Classic and Uncut. This games is a 3D shooter from the early 200os, which some fans will remember for having one of the best peeing mechanics of any game. For fans looking for a newer games, there will be titles like Hello Neighbor, a horror game about home invasion. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the Sonic mod for Hello Neighbor will not be included.
GOG isn’t the only gaming company that’s doing their part to fight the Coronavirus. Korean League of Legends team SK Telecom 1 has been raising money to fight the virus. Other gaming companies have been asking their employees to work from home, in order to slow the virus’s spread.
A full list of the included games can be found below, and all of games can be downloaded from GOG.com.
It’s really wonderful that GOG is making all of these games available to gamers for free. Hopefully these free games will encourage players to self isolate, keeping themselves and others safe.
