A former academy mid-laner for Dignitas, Tanner “Damonte” Damonte, has signed with Golden Guardians for the upcoming League of Legends 2020 summer split.
Damonte has been in and around the LCS for a while now and even attended the 2019 worlds with Clutch Gaming. However, even though Damonte and the Clutch Gaming roster had an impressive run, he’s been in a sort of limbo. Ever since the organization sold its LCS spot to Dignitas, Damonte was out of an LCS position. Luckily for Damonte though, Dignitas kept him on as their academy mid-laner. During the 2020 spring academy season, Dignitas would go on to place second in the regular season. Unfortunately, his efforts only led to being defeated by Evil Geniuses academy team in the semi-finals. However disappointing this may have been for Damonte, he clearly preformed exceptionally well as the Golden Guardians are using him to replace Greyson Gregory “Goldenglue” Gilmer as their starting LCS midlaner.
The announcement came via Twitter, with Golden Guardians declaring that Damonte will start in the 2020 summer split.
The move comes one week before the 2020 summer split is set to begin, with Golden Guardians officially announcing that Damonte would be returning to the LCS stage. It’s great news for Damonte and great news for Golden Guardians, as Damonte is widely considered to be one of the best NA birthed mid-laners. Damonte is also known to carry games, which means that this pickup could indicate that Golden Guardians are going to play around jungle and mid for most of their wins. That’s a smart tactic, as mid-lane has possibly the biggest impact in League of Legends, at least in terms of carry potential in this current season/meta.
Overall Damonte is a great addition to the Golden Guardians roster and will hopefully shape this roster into a winning team, or at least a team that is competitive with the rest.
Meanwhile, Golden Guardians also welcomed back Olleh as a positional support coach. It seems the team is gearing up to take summer split by storm with a resurgence of seasoned players.
