A group of fans is breathing new life into Gothic 2, a classic RPG that’s over 15 years old. Gothic II: The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos is a total conversion mod with over 40 hours of content coming to Steam in 2021, built by fans of the original.

The conversion mod will be free to download, but you’ll need to own a copy of Gothic II: Gold Edition for it to install properly. It’s described as having “a completely new open world, improved skills systems, gameplay mechanics and complex story.” The team said they wanted to “honor one of the best classic cRPGs and take the die-hard fans of the original Gothic trilogy as well as new players on one more adventure in the Kingdom of Myrtana.”

To go along with that new story, you’ll come across a ridiculous amount of new content, including:

  • Voice acting 40+ playtime A main plot with several twists and secrets to unravel Over 150 quests with multiple paths to completion New soundtrack Around 200 random events for you to encounter New crafting systems (Includes alchemy, cooking, and magic scroll writing) Rebalanced economy based on player feedback Expanded travel system Over 100 new armors and weapons

If you already own a copy of Gothic II, that’s a staggering amount of content you’re getting for free. If you don’t own the classic game, you can pick it up for just $9.99 on Steam. Or, if you’re really looking for an RPG fix, the full Gothic Universe Bundle (With Gothic 1,2 and 3) can be purchased for $19.99.

The original Gothic 2 follows an elaborate story revolving around the Nameless Hero. They’re tasked with saving the kingdom from an evil foe that’s being led by a group of dragons. You’ll embark on a journey packed with over 50 hours of content as you try to thwart the dragons plans and return peace to the land.

The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos is planned to release in 2021. More information can be found on its official Steam page.
