As an MMO, it tries its hardest to let the player forge a detailed, fantasy-realistic existence for their avatar. Did they have to make alcohol cloud your judgment so realistically (and hilariously), though? Ah, World of Warcraft. What an utterly hypnotic, all-encompassing, social-life-devouring beast you are....

Five of our writers take a few minutes out of their busy schedules to give their opinions on some of the most compelling and controversial recent news stories of the game industry. Even though video games have been getting more popular over the years on their own, the COVID-19 has clearly accelerated gaming’s popularity, particularly as millions of people have been confined to their homes, many under furlough schemes, with a lot more times on their hands. Earlier this year, it was revealed that the games market in the UK had reached a milestone, breaking previous records, and now it appears as though the industry is growing at a staggering rate....

Following the announcement of its official release date at the Xbox E3 Press Conference. The Coalition, the team behind Gears 5, has revealed gameplay for one of the franchise’s newest game modes, Escape. The new wave-based mode shows similarities to the classic horde mode that fans have grown fond of in the past, with a few added twists in order to help make it feel fresh. In the gameplay video, the player begins deep inside an infested hive, and plants a toxic venom before trying to make their escape, hence the mode’s branding....

September is poised to be a very busy month for shooter fans as huge games like Borderlands 3 and Destiny 2: Shadowkeep are set to launch around the same time. The next entry in Microsoft’s popular third person shooter franchise, Gears of War, has also settled on a September release date, though fans will get to go hands on with Gears 5 very soon in the first multiplayer tech test. In advance of the first session later this week, The Coalition released a new trailer giving fans a glimpse at what they can expect....

In Genshin Impact, there is almost always a special challenge or event happening at any given moment. This week, players have the opportunity to unlock all the Genshin Lost Riches locations and co-op challenges. Each day has two new locations, and today’s are number 7: Mingyun Village and number 8: Stormterror’s Lair. Number 8 Location As indicated on the quest page, number 8’s location is outside of the Stormterror’s Lair. Both the Iron Coins that players can dig up and the co-op challenge will be in this location....

Travelers will spend much of their time in Genshin Impact exploring the game’s massive terrain. With only two major updates under its belt, the game’s map already comprises three substantial regions, each with near countless quests to complete, enemies to challenge, and treasures to unearth. Though players will often find themselves completing challenging Domains to earn rare loot in Genshin Impact, one of the game’s larger treasures is found scattered across Teyvat’s landscapes....

Genshin Impact has a surprising amount of depth when it comes to building the best team comp. The right characters with the best artifacts and weapons can develop surprising and fun synergies that will lay waste to enemies. The difficulty can often be getting those weapons to begin with and knowing who to use them with. The good news is that the Skyrider Sword, while also available through the Wish system, has a guaranteed source in the game if players know where to look....

Some fans may have noticed it right away with the Darknight Hero quests, but others may not have realized yet that Diluc is the Batman of Genshin Impact. Early on, a rumor began circulating through Mondstadt of a vigilante keeping the streets safe at night, and the Traveler is tasked with finding this mysterious hero’s true identity. If the name of the quest didn’t give it away, there are a number of tells even within the first few steps of the intro quest that point to Diluc being an anime replica inspired by the popular DC comic franchise....

Gamers who want to experience the Reaper Game in the lead-up to the release of The World Ends with You: The Animation can now do so on the Switch for cheap, as the game is half price for the next few weeks. The World Ends with You was originally released for the Nintendo DS in 2007, where it quickly gained a cult-following who adored its characters, story, and dual-screen battles. Square Enix has greenlit an anime series based on the franchise, with The World Ends with You: The Animation announced at Anime Expo Lite, which will be released in 2021....

There are, however, a lot of frustrating elements that can irritate even the master builder or most dedicated gnome. Sandbox With A Lot Of Sand…And Other Things Players have a lot of control when customizing their starting zone. Big, small, flat, bumpy–full of goblins or not. Maybe there’s too much choice, though–a theme players have hinted at in early reviews online and on Steam....

An all new God of War trailer debuted during Sony’s PlayStation Media Showcase for E3 2017. The lengthy trailer mixed a variety of action and adventure with new story beats that should please every classic God of War fan. From the giant fallen titans that are seen in the background to the already impressive selection of enemies Kratos and son will have to fight, the new game is both nostalgic and modern in a variety of ways....

One common, if flawed criticism often lobbied against Microsoft is the lack of true Xbox exclusives, as the majority of its games can also be played on PC. Ironic for this criticism, then, is the seeming exodus of PS4 exclusives coming to PC. Death Stranding recently released for PC, for example, and Horizon Zero Dawn will join it later this summer. New rumors, which both of these ports started off as, now state that God of War is joining them....

Going Medieval is a popular colony simulator that takes big inspiration from games like Dwarf Fortress and Rimworld. In the same fashion as the games that inspired it, Going Medieval can be very unforgiving, with harsh winters, regular attacks from angry neighbors, and a resource management system that requires a fair bit of forethought. Set in Medieval England, the world your new villagers have set foot into does not promise an easy life....

Though news around Gotham Knights has died down in recent months, plenty of fans have held onto the hope that it would still release in 2021. Unfortunately, that will not be the case, as WB Montreal has officially announced a delay for Gotham Knights. At one point late last year, players believed that Gotham Knights was teasing a specific release date for 2021. While the evidence seemed to be there, as a poster related to The Flying Graysons provided some intriguing release date potential, unfortunately it seems like this was not a teaser at all....

If there’s one thing Star Wars fans love, it’s variants of their favorite classic ships. Followers of the Galactic Empire can never get enough new TIE Fighters, and Clone Wars devotees love seeing how the era’s ships hint at design aspects of the Original Trilogy. The Sequel Trilogy is also there. We kid (mostly), but Poe’s X-Wing does have a sick paint job. Now, Fantasy Flight games is bringing miniature versions of ships from all three trilogies into the X-Wing tabletop game....

There’s still very little known about Final Fantasy 16, but what has been shown so far seems rather impressive. Even the minute details of Joshua’s bookishness, Clive’s swordmanship, the world of Valisthea, and the ideas of Eikons and Dominants set Final Fantasy 16 up for a fitting return to medieval fantasy. However, there’s one more major feature required for it to be a true return-to-form: classes. Some form of class or job system is practically synonymous with the franchise, but this is despite recent games abandoning the feature....
