The movie both basks in the nostalgia we associate with “legacy sequels” while also attempting to create a new generation of heroes who look decidedly nothing like Stantz, Venkman, or Zeddemore—although Spengler’s spirit is pretty well captured by the pint-sized Mckenna Grace....

On PC, several Square Enix titles are hitting new low prices thanks to a sale at digital retailer Green Man Gaming. GOG is celebrating French developers and publishers with a big sale for Bastille Day. Happy Bastille Day! That’s the French national holiday that celebrates the Storming of the Bastille during the French Revolution. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is an ensemble game at heart. Though you play through the non-combat sections as Cloud, in combat you get to be everyone at once. The game acknowledges its turn-based roots while modernising itself to action-combat, taking inspiration from the original Final Fantasy 7, as well as Final Fantasy 13 and Kingdom Hearts, to create something as refreshing as Batman: Arkham Asylum once was. There are quite a few characters in Final Fantasy VII Remake who play a much bigger role than they did in the original game. The most obvious ones are Jessie, Biggs and Wedge; although there’s a strong argument to be made that Johnny is in fact the biggest benefactor of these changes. The PC community is getting its first crack at Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster with a release yesterday morning on Steam. Square Enix decided not to take pre-orders at all, but kicked off the release with a strong 20% off launch discount, taking the retail price from $29.99 to $23.99. All other third party retailers authorized by Square Enix are also carrying the same 20% off instant discount during release week....

Final Fantasy XIV’s combat classes are vast and diverse. Between its healers, tanks, and DPS classes, there are a total of 18, and each of them (except Blue Mage) are maxed out at level 80. Getting more than one class to level 80 can be quite the challenge. However, there are players who have gotten all their classes to 80. How do they do it? The growth of digital content in video games has opened the door for a new breed of studios to reach huge audiences. One of these studios was Campo Santo, with gamers falling in love with its independent adventure title Firewatch, leading to the game being one of the most anticipated releases of 2016....

Epic Games’ multiplayer shooter Fortnite is a huge hit with teenagers and many parents have expressed concern about their children spend playing it. But while most of the concern has been aimed at children who are neglecting their schoolwork, a recent news story has left some parents considering the game as a security risk. An Ohio news station reports that Jake Bates, a 13-year old Fortnite player from Mason, OH recently found himself being duped by a fellow player....

The water that flooded Fortnite at the end of Season 2 has started to subside, revealing old locations and altering new ones in the process. Fortnite’s map underwent one of the biggest changes in the game’s history during the transition from Season 2 into Season 3. A wall of water initially summoned by Midas collapsed and left a lot of the map underwater. What is now starting to become clear is that a lot of those changes are not permanent....

There are a variety of island rift codes for players to explore in Fortnite. While players wait for the leaked Season 3, Week 10 challenges to drop tomorrow, they can try out a difficult puzzle that has the internet searching for Golden Eggs. Island Rifts Codes are codes that lead Fortnite players to fan-made puzzles, which is an interesting twist on the traditional good battle royale formula. This particular challenge, made by Weck, features six levels with hidden Eggs that players need to shoot to be able to continue on to the next....

Whenever a live game like Fortnite gets a big update, as it did this week with the start of Season 5, there’s always a good chance that players will discover some new glitch that allows them to break it to their advantage. The latest example of this, however, makes it especially easy for Fortnite players to score wins, as it lets them do so from deep within the storm. No one needs to be reminded that the storm will kill them if they stay in it long enough, but Season 5 has inadvertently introduced a way to get around that....

The streaming service Netflix has made its intentions clear to start adapting some of its original shows and movies into video games. While interactive content, such as Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Minecraft: Story Mode, and Bear Grylls’ You vs. Wild, have started to scratch the surface of Netflix’s user-controlled experiences, full-scale games are still a work-in-progress for the company. While it’s not entirely its own project, a collaboration between Netflix and developer Epic Games, through Fortnite, could showcase the potential for one of the former’s most celebrated shows....
