It’s finally April 1, which means that not only is it April Fools’ Day, but the first new free Xbox Games with Gold of the month are available now. Starting today, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can download The Technomancer and the original Xbox version of Star Wars: Battlefront 2. The Technomancer is an action-RPG that has been called a low budget take on a BioWare game, and while it released to fairly weak reviews, it still has a group of dedicated fans nevertheless....

We’re going to have to go way back to even begin to explain this one. We’ll start with Iron Soldier, a mecha game from the mid-90s that tried to cash in on the giant robot craze that was sweeping gaming thanks to the likes of Heavy Gear and MechWarrior. The first two games were for the Atari Jaguar, and when Atari went bankrupt, developer Eclipse Software Design wisely decided to make the third installment for the original PlayStation....

I personally find myself captivated with the capital city itself, with its grandiose bridges and buildings, detailed water fountains, and various local shops that can be visited....

Square Enix’s Forspoken is certainly one of the biggest new releases of 2023 so far, but its road to release has been a bit rocky. Not only did many previews (including our own) point out some of the game’s notable early issues, but full reviews of the game have been embargoed until the day before its release, and many outlets have reported that they did not receive an early review code....

After a short delay, the Season 5 Week 7 challenges are now live in Fortnite battle royale. The challenges don’t match up exactly with the leaked challenges, as the leak suggested that players would be visiting Pleasant Park to find a treasure map this week - instead, they will have to travel to Dusty Divot. Of course, players don’t have to actually go to Dusty Divot and find the treasure map if they don’t want to....

Fortnite Pro Player Turner “Tfue” Tenney is suing FaZe Clan for what he believes is an unlawful and restrictive contract. Tenney’s lawsuit alleges that FaZe prevents him from signing many lucrative deals with sponsors and brands and takes a punishing 80% of his revenue from various, game-related deals. There are several different elements to the lawsuit but the key components are Tenney’s claims that FaZe clan prevents deals, takes a large cut of some of those deals/winnings, and that it violates the Talent Agency Act....

Epic Games’ Fortnite is no stranger to lawsuits, and in fact, it is currently in the midst of multiple lawsuits, many of which have to deal with whether or not dances can be copyrighted. However, the latest lawsuit filed against Fortnite and Epic Games is not about dance emotes, but rather its supposed sale of “predatory” loot boxes. Fortnite battle royale players may be confused by this lawsuit, as the battle royale mode doesn’t use loot boxes....

While Fortnite is still the biggest battle royale game in the world, the biggest threat to its spot at the top came earlier this month with the surprise launch of Apex Legends from Respawn Entertainment. Apex Legends earned widespread praise from critics and fans alike, amassing over 25 million players since launch. Considering the success of the game, it’s no surprise that Fortnite appears to have lifted one of its most popular features in its latest update....

Acclaim Entertainment was a key publisher in the video games industry during the 90s, and co-founder Greg Fischbach is ready for the next step in his career. Accelerate Games is his next-gen company, and the publisher is already underway in developing its first title. Speaking to GamesBeat, Fischbach spoke about his return to the industry by establishing his first gaming firm since Acclaim’s demise in 2004. Fischbach highlighted the importance of teamwork within Accelerate, stating “that’s what I’ve learned from everything I have done”....

And there’s also the Sky Kids app as well. National Geographic Kids - younger kids will love the activities here. BBC Learning - it’s an old site, but there’s still a lot of good material. Just recently, the publisher Gun Media and developer IllFonic revealed intentions to unban some cheaters and exploiters in the next patch for the asymmetrical multiplayer survival-horror release Friday the 13th: The Game. With this being the case, those lucky few who manage to get reinstated to play the title will eventually get to experience a new Camp Counselor in the form of Fox from Part 3 in the film series, as the game’s creators are preparing to add her at some point in the future....

The Public Domain Jam seeks to answer the question of why so many games use zombies and Lovecraft’s Cthulhu as their story basis. Easy—they’re in public domain, they’re recognizable, and there are a lot of stories to tell based on just these two fiction elements. But, as the public domain games created for the Public Domain Jam show, these aren’t the only stories we can tell in game form. With over twenty entries, the second annual PDJ wrapped up recently, with developers creating a game based on a work in the public domain in just ten days....

Hollow Knight, the Metroidvania action-adventure from Team Cherry, is considered one of the finest examples of its genre. In the game, players take control of a nameless insect-like knight as they traverse the kingdom of Hallownest. It’s a dark world, decaying and plague-ridden, with many of its insectoid inhabitants already fallen to the spreading infection. Hollow Knight’s story is just as sinister, and has multiple endings depending on the player’s actions....

Back in 2013, developer Black Tusk was excited to show off a teaser for their latest IP in development. The game was so promising that even Microsoft called it the next Halo. However, despite the game’s potential, it was shelved once Microsoft purchased Gears of War from developer Epic Games and handed over development of Gears of War 4 to Black Tusk. In an interview with Polygon, Studio Manager Mike Crump shared some details about the transition....

Gears POP was an odd phenomenon when it was announced back in 2018, and it has remained such since. Despite being an amalgamation of two very popular things, it was just announced that the servers would be shutting down for good next year.
