When a series reaches a certain level of popularity, its creators often look to expand into new markets. This is usually in the form of manga, anime or feature films. The Final Fantasy series has tried its hand at each of these and, for the most part at least, has been pretty successful. In fact, there’s very little that Square Enix hasn’t tried when it comes to expanding the audience for their most successful series....
I’ve written before about how Final Fantasy 7 Remake doesn’t care about your prior knowledge of the original game and its myriad spin-offs. Square Enix is taking this reimagined universe in some wild new directions, unafraid of the fact it is reviving beloved characters and shifting the narrative into uncharted territory. All bets are off, and I can’t wait to see what ludicrous events unfold in the years to come....
Square Enix rings in the new year in style, announcing that PlayStation One classic Final Fantasy 9 will be coming to PC and mobile platforms in 2016. Square Enix announced its intent to release Final Fantasy IX on PC, Android, and iOS devices in Japan sometime in 2016, although the developer has not indicated when or whether or not North American or European gamers will have to wait for a localized realize afterwards....
Final Fantasy had a weird start in the West. It didn’t premiere until three years after Japan’s launch on the Famicom in 1987. When it did land in 1990, Japan already got two sequels. So instead of localizing those, Square decided to focus on Final Fantasy IV’s port. To not confuse people it was called Final Fantasy II. The next game was skipped and Final Fantasy VI became Final Fantasy III....
Final Fantasy games are usually renowned for the stellar music accompanying gamers on their epic journey through these finely crafted worlds. Final Fantasy VII Remake has the advantage of rearranging already classic tunes for the return trip to Midgar. Composer of the original game, Nobuo Uematsu, contributed music to the new game along with Mitsuto Suzuki and Masashi Hamauzu. The massive score covers a wide range of tunes from the 1997 PlayStation classic, but a few notable jams are missing....
Fortnite season 7 week 9 challenges are now live, with players required to complete everything from using a Sneaky Snowman to doing timed trials in a Stormwing X-4 plane. Among these new challenges is a staged, Battle Pass challenge that requires player to find and then dance on a sundial, oversized cup of coffee, and a giant metal dog head. Of course, this is not the first staged dance challenge of the battle royale game or even the season....
With its anniversary month of July and birthday challenges now at an end, Fortnite has released update 5.20 which adds plenty of new content for fans of the shooter. Along with the Ragnarok, The Dark Viking, a Mythic Outlander, as well as new weekly Horde challenges in the PvE mode Save the World, players have a new Limited Time Mode available right now inside Battle Royale. Game Freak held a secret press conference in Japan that outlined the next few titles in the Pokémon series to release in 2018. These announcements were made on the official Pokémon Twitter page. The first game that was announced was Pokémon Quest, which is an upcoming freemium, aka free to play (but pricey to upgrade), game for the Nintendo Switch and smartphones. Rumors regarding Game of Thrones’ author George R. R. Martin working with From Software on a new game have grown remarkably since last night’s revelation. Martin himself confirmed that he consulted with a Japanese developer on a new game, reinvigorating a months-old rumor that he’d met with From Software. The rumor has grown substantially in just a matter of hours, confirming the project, naming it Great Rune, and claiming it’s bound for E3 2019 to be revealed during the Xbox keynote....
The coronavirus outbreak has impacted all facets of society around the globe, from companies like EA asking employees to work from home to major gaming events such as E3 being canceled. Many businesses have also reached out to employees and customers to inform them of the steps being taken to keep the public safe.
