In 2018, Microsoft began the process of creating a new development studio called The Initiative. For the years that followed, many were unsure what would come from the mysterious in-house studio until December 2020 with the announcement of a new Perfect Dark game at The Game Awards. News on the Perfect Dark reboot remains stagnant, but the studio has been going through a state of reformation in recent weeks. Design director Drew Murray, who was a part of the studio since its inception in November 2018, announced his departure from The Initiative earlier this month....

Following in the footsteps of last year’s Infinity War crossover, Fortnite has launched an Avengers: Endgame crossover event. This event includes a limited-time mode called Endgame, as well as event-exclusive cosmetics, including a special Quinjet Glider based on the Avengers’ vehicle from the films and comics. Unlocking the Quinjet Glider in Fortnite is a matter of completing 10 Endgame challenges. There will be 12 challenges total, with three new challenges unlocking every couple of days....

The success of Epic Games’ battle royale Fortnite has led to plenty of high-profile events, including a recently announced Fortnite and Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers crossover. However, Fortnite has also become a prominent platform for events such as concerts, and today it was announced that Japanese musician Kenshi Yonezu will be premiering a new video through a Party Royale on August 7. Fortnite has gone through a dramatic transformation with the release of Chapter 2’s Season 3 this past week. Gamestop and Microsoft have announced that they’ve entered into a “multi-year strategic partnership agreement.” “This is an exciting day at GameStop,” says GameStop CEO, George Sherman. “Since joining the company last April, we have been on a mission to evolve our strategy to take advantage of our undisputed leadership position in gaming.” Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, also weighed in on the deal by noting that “GameStop has been a strong go-to-market partner for our gaming products” and that Microsoft is “excited about continuing and evolving that relationship for the launch of the Xbox Series X|S....

It looks as though Microsoft’s bold new scheme for the Xbox One might just work. Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that the Xbox One is going to ship without Kinect for the first time, alongside a price drop of $100. This will bring its cost down to the same as its rival, the PS4, at $399 in the United States. It will also allow customers the freedom to buy the console without the motion-sensor device, which has caused more than a little controversy since the Xbox One was announced....

Each day of the event, players have had to locate Liben, a traveling salesman, in exchange for a small quest and reward. Genshin Impact’s elemental system is the core mechanic driving combat choices, party composition, and character investment. It’s been the focus of both ire and praise from the community. Mihoyo’s most recent 1.1 patch changed some things for better and for worse, and the game’s dedicated fanbase has something to say about those new system changes. For a little context, Genshin Impact’s 1.1 update launched almost a month ago.
