Gears 5 is free to play on PC this weekend. Yes, you heard me: free. Gears 5 came out last September as the most successful launch on the Xbox One for an exclusive IP. It has since been eclipsed by the Master Chief Collection, but still, it’s a very good game worthy of your time. It’s also free to play on PC this weekend, so you have no excuse. From now until April 12 (so basically this weekend) you can download Gears 5 on Steam or the Windows Store and play it for free....

Beginning life as a first-person shooter for the PC and Mac, Battlefield has evolved into one of the most enjoyable long-running online multiplayer games of the past two decades. The series began with excellent games set during World War II and the Vietnam War before Swedish developers EA DICE got a little too ambitious. They lost their way a little bit with the over-the-top and futuristic Battlefield 2142. Many gamers encountered problems when playing online and preferred the historic setting of previous incarnations....

Suffice it to say, Ghost of Tsushima gives players a sprawling story to enjoy and a vast island to explore. The amount of content on offer ensures that gamers get plenty of bang for their buck in a single playthrough. Those simply stopping after the tale ends, however, are doing themselves a grave disservice. In reality, Tsushima Island has far more to discover than players realize. Leaked concept art for God of War 4 suggests that the next game in the series will be based on Norse mythology instead of Greek, and star a Viking version of Kratos. Anyone that has played through the God of War franchise should know that, due to the events of God of War 3, pulling off a sequel still based on Greek mythology could be difficult. However, if recently leaked concept art is any indication, it seems as though God of War 4 will be able to avoid any plot issues by getting rid of Greek mythology altogether in favor of a Norse mythology setting....

Since the initial reveal of the upcoming God of War sequel, fans have quickly begun to speculate what might be in the game and how Santa Monica Studios intends to push the PS5 further than the previous game could have gone. Square Enix drops a new trailer for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age at the 2016 Tokyo Game Show, showing off the HD remaster’s improved graphics on PlayStation 4. Square Enix is presumably hard at work putting the final touches on two major Final Fantasy games that will release before the end of the year. World of Final Fantasy hits the market in October, followed by the delayed November arrival of Final Fantasy XV....

Square Enix has decked out the virtual space of Eorzea with an interactive Valentine’s Day event for Final Fantasy 14 players, complete with a limited event space and new Moogle-inspired items. Fans of the longtime Final Fantasy mascot can jump into the game now and participate in the holiday event to snag the new items to decorate themselves and their personal spaces. The event, which started on February 10th, will be available in Final Fantasy 14 through March 8th, and requires players to be at least level 15 to participate....

Square Enix officially confirms that Final Fantasy 15’s pricey $270 Ultimate Collector’s Edition does not include the role-playing game’s Season Pass. Although Final Fantasy 15’s $270 Ultimate Collector’s Editions were initially so popular that it prompted Square Enix to manufacture 10,000 more units, it’s quite possible that the forthcoming role-playing game’s rather expensive version may have fans attempting to get a refund. According to a Q&A session during gamescom 2016 with the title’s director Hajime Tabata and art director Tomohiro Hasegawa, the costly special version of the game will not contain its Season Pass....

Video game soundtracks continue to be a big business as fans support and enjoy the tunes that accompany them through their gaming journeys. As more soundtracks hit streaming services like the majority of Final Fantasy titles now available on Spotify, there is still a big demand for physical releases of entire soundtracks. Square Enix has revealed that it will continue to release such collections, now with a new edition of one 2020’s biggest titles....

Final Fantasy 9 released in 2000 and was the last Final Fantasy title to come out for the PlayStation, with subsequent sequels moving onto the PlayStation 2. Unlike its immediate predecessors, Final Fantasy 9 is set in a medieval world rather than a futuristic one. After eons and eons, Square Enix will finally be releasing Final Fantasy VII Remake unto the world this Friday. Fans have been begging for a remake of this classic JRPG ever since that original PS3 tech demo, so it’s nice to see that the project was able to come to light. So far, critical reception to the game has been incredibly positive. There may be some nostalgic bias going on, but the general consensus is that fans of the original will be very pleased....

Forever Entertainment, a Kraków-based game development studio founded in 2010, has reportedly signed an agreement with Square Enix to develop and release several game remakes based on titles owned by the Japanese conglomerate, the company said in a statement. The name of the remakes have not yet been revealed, though it is one of Square Enix’s previously released games. Although the graphic design of the game is expected to be updated, the gameplay and storyline will adhere to the original version....
