It’s not been a great day mobile players of the hugely popular game Fortnite, with the battle royale being kicked off the App Store earlier today, and now the Google Play Store too. The reason behind both store bans is a new in-game payment system Epic Games sneaked into Fortnite that bypasses the App Store and Google Play Store cuts. Epic’s update let players pay the company directly for in-app purchases in Fortnite, allowing Epic Games to avoid the 30% fee Apple and Google take from microtransactions, which Epic’s CEO Tim Sweeney has criticized strongly in the past....

Fortnite is currently in the middle of Marvel-madness with its current Chapter 2 Season 4 update, called the Nexus War, that features playable heroes from all over the Marvel universe. Players can play as Mystique, Iron Man, Wolverine, Groot, Thor and more, in addition to a host of Marvel map changes. But according to some leaks, even more superheroes may be on the way. The new additions to Fortnite are more than just map changes and skins, however....

Just as kids and adults are preparing for Halloween in a little over a week, so two are a variety of video games. From Dead by Daylight to Black Ops 4, a number of titles are either preparing or running Halloween events, with Fortnite getting ready to join in on the fun. This week, Fortnite’s official Twitter account teased the next Halloween event using the hashtag Fortnitemares. Some may remember that Fortnitemares was the kick-off to Seasons in Fortnite and featured a few changes to the gameplay along with a lot of spooky cosmetics....

It’s been one-and-a-half years since composer 2 Mello was paid royalties for his contributions to Celeste B-Sides, a collection of remixed songs from the Celeste soundtrack. The publishing rights for Celeste B-Sides was handed over from original soundtrack composer Lena Raine to Materia Collection in July of 2019, and since then, 2 Mello hasn’t received any royalties for any song or album sales. And he’s not alone. “At least three other B-sides remix artists I’ve talked to have also not been paid by Materia since July,” 2 Mello wrote on Twitter....

Aside from obviously not being part of the problem by simply refraining from sending abusive, threatening, and hateful messages to people, there are other things we can do. One of these is reporting the toxicity of others, especially on voice comms....

Genshin Impact has recently added a new section to the map called Dragonspine. In this new area, players will find a new Dragonspine Statue of the Seven, stone tablets, new enemies, and even new materials to farm. Two of these new materials are the hard-to-find Rime-Worn Crystals and Rime-Worn Fragments. Between all your fighting, running, climbing, gliding, and general adventuring in Genshin Impact, you may want to relax and cook up a nice meal every now and then. Or, more accurately, the game is going to heavily incentivize you to do so with a daily quest, such as Good Medicine Tastes Bitter, which requires you to whip up some Almond Tofu for a sick child. If you’ve never even heard of this dish, let alone eaten it, you might be missing out on some easy rewards....

Genshin Impact recently gave all its players 240 Primogens as compensation for the server downtime required for maintenance. The premium currency was paid out at a rate of 60 Primogems per hour of downtime, with a minimum payout of 240. According to the developer blog, the server needed to be taken down “while update maintenance [was] in progress.” The update was scheduled for yesterday between 7:00am to 11:00am UTC+8, so the servers are back up and running, and your Primogem wallets should be a bit fatter....

Genshin Impact is often called “Breath of the Waifu” due to its Breath of the Wild-style exploration and gacha-based character collection featuring cute anime girls. It’s a nickname fans of the game hate, as they want to see their new fave praised for its achievements and not reduced to clone status. But Genshin developer Mihoyo is apparently cool with embracing the waifu by providing a new activity inspired by dating sims....

At this point it’s a fair bet that Mass Effect 3 fans are already counting down the hours until the playable demo is released on Tuesday, February 14. But in the spirit of roses and whispers of sweet Renegade Points, BioWare has released a new Facebook game that will provide Xbox 360 owners with a download code ahead of schedule. That’s provided they don’t need a Normandy model ship for their Xbox Live Avatar, and that they are able to complete the test at all....

Earlier this year, Marvel began invading Fortnite. At first, it was just characters and cosmetics, but then it evolved into more elaborate in-game events. Now there’s a world-encompassing spaceman flying straight at the Fortnite island and nobody’s sure what will happen once he gets there (although we’ve got a pretty good guess). Some of you have expressed fatigue at the heavy Marvel presence in Fortnite. Well, we’ve got news for you: Marvel isn’t going to leave anytime soon....

One of the first next-generation games revealed to the public was Counterplay Games’ Godfall. Revealed with a visually-stunning trailer, Godfall generated significant hype in the months leading up to its eventual release as a PS5 console-exclusive game. Now Godfall is out in the wild, and fans can find out if it lives up to expectations. Unfortunately, Godfall has some major drawbacks that keep it from reaching its full potential, though there is some fun to be had....

Legendary recently debuted a brand new trailer for the upcoming MonsterVerse film, Godzilla vs. Kong. Now, a fan-made video offers a side-by-side comparison of the upcoming 2021 film and its 1962 Japanese counterpart, King Kong vs. Godzilla. In the video, uploaded to YouTube by the channel FALLEN, both trailers play simultaneously, with the 1962 version edited to resemble the 2021 update. Watching the footage from both films side by side really shows just how far these two infamous giant movie monsters have come....

Final Fantasy 16 finally showed itself last year, and fans are over the moon with excitement. This short showcase introduced players to the world of Valisthea, as well as some of its inhabitants. With the help of the official FF16 website, players were able to get to know the main characters a bit, including Clive, Joshua, and Jill, but there hasn’t been much shown in the way of enemies just yet....

The Final Fantasy series, like any great video game franchise, has had its ups and downs. Even the most hardcore of fans probably don’t love every game in the series. Some entries, like Final Fantasy XIII, have a bad reputation that is justified in the sequels. Others, like Final Fantasy XI, were great games but are definitely not for everyone. However, the game that has a reputation that it doesn’t really deserve is Final Fantasy VIII....
