Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has had more than his share of controversy in recent years and, this past week, some shady profit-sharing decisions by the Borderlands 3 developer has caused an uproar among the company’s employees and also incited comments from Cory Barlog, director of 2018’s highly successful God of War reboot. A number of Gearbox employees anonymously shared that Pitchford has reneged on promised revenue bonuses and greatly reduced the amount that the studio’s workers will receive....

Usually, when someone achieves a respectable accomplishment, the next thing they want to do is celebrate. Maybe they’ll go to Disneyland. But Adam Wingard, the man behind the highly-anticipated Godzilla vs. Kong, seems to have other plans. Apparently, weird stuff happens when Disneyland is closed. Paramount has just brought in Wingard to helm a sequel to the over-the-top 1997 action thriller Face/Off. He will be joined by writer Simon Barrett, whom he had previously worked with on 2016’s Blair Witch and 2011’s You’re Next, both of which Wingard directed....

A playable build of the Xbox 360 remaster of GoldenEye 007, which was cancelled in 2008 shortly before being finished, has leaked online. The game, which can be played on PC via unofficial emulators, never saw the light of day since Nintendo and Microsoft were unable to reach an agreement. Last month, a full playthrough appeared on YouTube with improved graphics and 60 frame-per-second gameplay. A fan remake powered by Unreal Engine 4, titled GoldenEye 25, was reportedly in development and scheduled for a 2022 release, but the project was scrapped last year....

DC FanDome 2020 is still echoing in our thoughts because of what was announced. A The Batman trailer, Suicide Squad game, and Gotham Knights, were some of the event’s highlights. Already we are scratching our heads, trying to figure out what Gotham Knights might entail. It looks like developer WB Games Montréal is looking to delve into Batman’s expanded universe by excluding him entirely. It’s still early, but Batman might not appear in Gotham Knights....

Even though it is set in a distinct universe from Rocksteady’s Arkham series, Gotham Knights picks up on a note remarkably similar to the secret ending of Batman: Arkham Knight. Police Commissioner James Gordon is recently deceased, an explosion has revealed the batcave, and Batman’s allies receive an automated “if you are watching this, I am dead,” message. But unlike the Arkham-verse, where players take on the role of Batman, Gotham Knights focuses on four of the caped crusaders’ most capable allies....

New Game Plus is a feature that has been around for many years in video games, and it is a feature that incentivizes players to start a new playthrough after finishing their first. This feature is mostly used in single-player RPGs to reward players for playing a second or third time. It carries certain items or experience over, so players don’t have to grind through the game to get those items and experience back....

While Infinity Ward’s latest Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 3 continues to decimate sales records and dominate online PC, PSN, and Xbox Live servers, there’s no doubt that die-hard fans, not to mention Call of Duty Elite subscribers, are ready for some fresh content. Season 8 of Fortnite has made a number of big changes to the game and the battle royale map. This includes a volcano where Wailing Woods used to be, pirate camps popping up all over the place, and some new items, like the legendary-tier buried treasure map. The treasure map is brand new to Fortnite, and so some players may not quite know exactly how to use it in the game....

Among a myriad of new skins, wraps, emotes, major map changes, and more, Fortnite is also introducing a new weapon in season 8, the Pirate Cannon. As the weeks and months press on, Epic Games continues to provide a sumptuous amount of support for its free-to-play multiplayer sandbox survival title, Fortnite Battle Royale, with the company having just recently added Mounted Turrets as objects in the game. Shortly after this, the studio decided to add a new explosive item–that is, Dynamite–but it looks as if players weren’t able to try their hand at using it for too long, as the nitroglycerine sticks were disabled almost immediately after their introduction....

Evolve released in February to mixed reviews, due to the unique challenges associated with 4-vs-1 asymmetrical multiplayer. Reviews touted that when matched with balanced players the experience was enjoyable and refreshing, but too often gamers would find themselves on a disjointed team or lopsided battle. With Evolve offering unique, but potentially frustrating, experiences players can oftentimes lose interest. Unfortunately for Turtle Rock Studios that loss of appeal is already occurring, as highlighted by a steady drop in player base on Steam....

After nearly a week of waiting, Friday the 13th players on PS4 have finally received the much-needed matchmaking patch for the console. In addition, the patch should fix some known exploits and bugs, thereby making the 1v7 multiplayer experience a little smoother and a little fairer. Horizon Forbidden West has been been a staggering success for Sony, hurtling in as the underdog with a record-breaking State of Play. For the most part, video games require a staff of multiple people in order to pull off the vision of what the game should play, sound, and look like by the time it is released. In some rare cases, however, one person manages to create an entire game all by themselves, from coding and sound development down to animation and art direction, usually taking many years to get the product finished....

Unlike Halo Wars or Predator: Hunting Grounds where extensive strategy is the norm, Gears Tactics goes astray a bit with a more concentrated and pitched approach. The turn-based tactics game certainly has everything for both newcomers and genre veterans alike. The fast-paced and highly aggressive game is sturdy enough to keep fans glued in for a while, especially with the tweaks to elements like over-watch and action usage will tickle strategy lovers....

Since getting a PS5, I’ve had my old PS4 Pro just sitting on my desk. I have plenty of memories with this machine, and I’m hesitant to sell it, both because the current prices are fairly rubbish, and because I don’t want to lose access to PT, just in case I wish to play it again in the distant future. But it’s a waste, frankly. It just sits there, doing nothing, gathering dust, and I can’t help but feel bad....
