In an effort to bridge the gender-gap in the video game industry, Laila Shabir started Girls Make Games four years ago. Every year, Girls Make Games runs 3 week long summer camps around the country. This year, 33 teams of girls between the ages of 8-17 learned how to design and program video games at PlayStation’s campus in San Mateo to celebrate girls in gaming. Of those 33 teams, the top five made it out to Demo Day to pitch their games to a panel of industry judges....

The latest action-packed trailer from Dragon Ball FighterZ just dropped and it showcases the devastating, dark powers of Goku Black. Like the other character trailers from Dragon Ball FighterZ, it’s short, but contains just enough to get gamers’ blood pumping. Beginning with an intro that harkens back to his first appearance in the anime, Goku Black descends from the sky as a dark, shapeless form in a vortex of energy. He then kicks off the battle by going Super Saiyan Rose and proceeds to absolutely wreck poor Trunks....

Fans of Final Fantasy love the franchise for its gripping stories, memorable characters, impressive spells, and its fair share of new weapons. Moreover, Final Fantasy games have introduced many novel weapon concepts that made a mark inside and outside the video game industry. For instance, the Buster Sword in Final Fantasy 7 introduced “protagonists have big swords” to younger generations. Astrologian can be a scary Final Fantasy 14 class due to its use of different cards to deal out buffs to party members. How does one memorize what card does what? What classes should get what card dealt to them? The class especially threw players in for a loop when the Shadowbringers expansion came out because Astrologian was reworked and players had to re-learn their abilities and what the cards did....

Final Fantasy VII Remake is one of the best modern JRPGs of all time and a fitting tribute to the original classic. The game absolutely oozes quality from every pore, with its expansion of the legendary area of Midgar being quite a treat to witness indeed. While some people might’ve understandably been miffed at the idea of spending the entirety of a Final Fantasy game in Midgar, one can’t deny that the game is still a treat to behold… especially for players who managed to grab Final Fantasy VII Intergrade....

Compared to the last few Fire Emblem installments, Three Houses is rather subdued with its romance features. Awakening and Fates allowed most units to be married off and have children, and while many of the students in Garreg Mach aren’t shy about flirting with each other, only Byleth can actually reach S-Support with anyone. If anything, this puts a lot of pressure on Byleth’s support conversations to be interesting and satisfying for the player....

Cissy Jones has revealed in a podcast that Firewatch was initially going to have a much different ending - without Delilah. Firewatch is generally regarded as one of the best “walking simulator” experiences out there at the moment. Although it was very well received, the game’s ending was divisive amongst reviewers and consumers alike for its vague, anti-climactic ending. Some people may or may not have enjoyed the finale, but the ending that Campo Santo had originally planned could have gone over worse....

Towards the tail end of last year, Poland-based indie studio Blinkclick Games revealed its upcoming game, Fishkeeper - a 3D aquarium simulator that is described by the studio as “The Sims in an aquarium” and “underwater Tamagotchi”. The game combines a unique blend of economic strategy and aquarium building, all while taking care of your fish. Fishkeeper seems like it could be a great game to play as a way to wind down and relax after a long day....

Fortnite’s doomsday event finally happened, and it has sunk the battle royale map underwater. In an attempt to get rid of the storm, Midas has made a different problem, as now the storm has taken the form of a giant wall of water which is closing in on the island. Several months ago, Friday the 13th: The Game publisher Gun Media announced the cancellation of all future DLC for the multiplayer survivor horror title due to a legal issue preventing any new content from the film series to be made. Following this, a recent court ruling in favor of Victor Miller, the original movie’s scriptwriter, declared that he retains rights to the franchise in the U.S., making it difficult for others to use the character of Jason Voorhees....

Gamescom 2018 is literally right around the corner and, while there won’t be any formal press conferences, the trade show’s press team has confirmed that an opening ceremony will be held and will feature brand new reveals and announcements. We already know some details for already confirmed titles. For example, Devil May Cry 5 will have its first playable demo at the event. However, several publishers have been confirmed to be presenting “global premieres” for as of yet unannounced titles, including Ubisoft, Square Enix, THQ Nordic and Bandai Namco....

It was only a matter of time, as publishers continued to offer free DLC and require online passes for their games, that GameStop was going to come under fire for their used game market. In this day and age, it’s common for leaks to spread quickly through the Internet, and developers can do little to stop the flow of information. This is the case with Gears 5, which saw a horde of upcoming multiplayer skins leaked through social media and Reddit. Rather than comment on the leak or try to stop it, Gears 5’s developer merely addressed the situation in a humorous way. There are over 35 Gears 5 multiplayer character skins floating around social media at the moment, and it’s been difficult to pin down exactly where they originated....

Gears of War 4 director Rod Ferguson shares a comparison shot that demonstrates the improvements made to the game’s visuals since its recent multiplayer beta. It’s not uncommon for well-hyped games to look more impressive in pre-release publicity materials than they do when they’re finally released to the public. However, the team working on Gears of War 4 at The Coalition are clearly trying to reverse this situation and over-deliver when their much-anticipated shooter launches later this year....

Several weeks ago, Microsoft’s head of gaming and former Xbox boss Phil Spencer seemingly confirmed that Gears of War 5 is on the way while discussing the plans for Xbox Game Pass, mentioning that “future unannounced games” for some “Xbox One exclusive franchises” such as GoW will be included in the subscription service. Now, it seems as if Microsoft is already moving ahead with development of the fifth numbered entry in the third-person shooter series, as several job listings on the developer Splash Damage’s website suggest that to be the case....

Genshin Impact fans have had a steady flow of new content to play with since the game’s official release, barely two months ago. Despite the recent release of Version 1.1, including new characters, quests, and the imminent arrival of version 1.2, gamers keep searching for signs of even newer content, like this set of future in-game events. Developer miHoYo has transparently begun taking legal action against particularly substantial leaks/leakers, but nonetheless, Genshin Impact rumors continue to circulate....
